While all other classes are box stock, the Losi Asphalt Late Model division will be a modified class with a small set of rules for racers who want to get more technical. Just how fast of lap times will we see put down in this division?

One of the biggest topics of conversation this offseason has been the battery rule for our 1RC divisions.

After a lot of discussion and consideration, we have decided to keep the 1RC battery rule as the box stock 5-cell NiMH battery. We strongly considered moving to a LiPo battery rule and at one point were honestly leaning in that direction. However, after looking at the overall direction of the class, we feel staying with the stock 5-cell battery is the best decision for Milton RC Raceway.

The biggest reason is we want to protect the box stock nature of the 1RC divisions. We strongly believe the box stock approach is a major reason why car counts have grown so rapidly at Milton RC. Last season, there were multiple times when new drivers bought a car and were able to race the same day or the next day. The easier it is for someone to get started, the better it is for the long-term growth of the class.

The 1RC national rulebook is built around the stock 5-cell battery. It is what the cars were designed by the manufacturer to run. Moving to a LiPo battery rule would also create new tech concerns and add another layer of complexity to the divisions.

With that being said, we also understand why LiPo batteries were being discussed. There have been concerns about racers gaining an advantage by overheating or overcharging the 5-cell batteries before racing. To address that, we will be adding a battery temperature rule and new tech procedure for the 1RC divisions.

We will have a temperature gun and will check battery temperatures before cars go on the track. Once a battery has been checked, it may not be charged, warmed, swapped, or handled without approval from race officials. We will announce the official battery temperature limit before the start of the season after additional testing.

The goal of this rule is not to make things difficult on racers, it is to prevent battery manipulation while still keeping the class simple, affordable, and box stock.

We are also adjusting the breakout rule for the 1RC divisions. Last season, the 1RC breakout rule was the same as the Losi divisions at 3.0 seconds which was not realistic for the 1RC classes. For the upcoming season, the 1RC breakout rule will be set at 3.5 seconds. This number was chosen after reviewing race data from last season. Based on those results, there were only a few occasions where drivers would have broken out at 3.5 seconds.

Our goal with these updates is to keep the 1RC classes fun, affordable, competitive, and as close to box stock as possible.

One of the things mentioned a lot in our survey was having some more open practice nights. We have heard you and this is something we definitely want to do for the 2026-2027 season is add some more open practice nights so new racers can get some more track time to practice and improve skills.

As we look at survey results, the next thing we want to share was the results of the length of our racedays. The large majority voted that the length of the raceday was just right.

Our racing programs are ran with very little downtime, so if length was an issue, the only way to shorten the race day is to cut down from two rounds to one round of qualifying. The survey results overwhelmingly favored doing two rounds of qualifying.

With that being said, we will be sticking with two rounds of qualifying as our standard format for the 2026-2027 season. We will once again run our events as efficiently as possible to limit down time.
