Water Safety Tip 31: Don't Forget to Hydrate and Take Breaks

Swimming works every muscle at once -- arms, legs, core, lungs -- all fighting water resistance the entire time. It's one of the most demanding workouts there is, and kids are doing it while learning new skills on top of it.

30 minutes of swimming is a full-body, low-impact workout. Depending on your effort level, it is generally equivalent to burning 200 to 400 calories or doing 45 to 60 minutes of land-based exercise in terms of cardiovascular exertion. You still sweat while you swim, you just don't notice it because you're wet.

So hydration and rest breaks are essential for helping to keep swimmers from becoming fatigued. For under an hour of swimming water works for hydrating, but if swimming for longer something with electrolytes is recommended.

Water Safety Tip 30: Take Swimming Lessons
Today we also celebrate the person who made all of this possible, Mr. Daniel.

Daniel, your heart for this school, your commitment to every swimmer, and your vision for what 7C's could be has shaped everything we do. We are grateful for your leadership, your compassion, and the community you have built. From the entire 7C's family — Happy Birthday. Here is to many more years of making a difference, one swimmer at a time.

Learning to swim is one of the most important skills you can give your child. Not just for fun in the water, but for safety, confidence, and a sense of independence that follows them for life.

At 7C's Swim School, every lesson is 1:1. No group classes, no waiting for the instructor's attention. Just your child and a dedicated instructor, building real skills at a pace that feels right for them.

If you've been thinking about getting started, we'd love to meet your family.

Water Safety Tip 29: Swim Diapers for the pool.

If your little one is not yet potty trained, what they wear in the water matters more than you might think.

Regular absorbent diapers are not made for pool use. They soak up water, swell, and can fall apart, creating a huge mess that is extremely difficult to clean up.

Swim diapers are different. They do not absorb water, but they are designed to help hold in solid waste long enough for you to get your child out and changed. When shopping for swim diapers, look for reusable options with tight-fitting elastic around the legs and waist. They hold their shape better than disposable swim diapers, stay lightweight in the water, do a much better job of keeping things contained and are required at 7C's.

A few things every pool parent should know:
- Check and change swim diapers frequently, always away from the poolside.
- Swim diapers can help contain solid bowel movements, but not diarrhea. If your child has diarrhea, skip the pool that day.
- Swim diapers are not a substitute for regular bathroom breaks.

Keeping the water safe is something every family plays a part in. Thank you for doing your part.

Water Safety Tip 28: No Breath-Holding Contests

Breath-holding contests are more dangerous than they look.

When swimmers take repeated deep breaths before holding underwater, it suppresses the body's natural warning signals. Shallow water blackout can happen silently, with no struggle and no warning, even to strong swimmers.

Talk to your kids before pool season is in full swing: no breath-holding contests, ever.

Water Safety Tip 27: Clothed Swim Tests can be lifesaving

Most kids don't fall into water wearing a swimsuit. They fall in wearing a t-shirt, pants, shoes and no goggles.

That's why at 7C's, the clothed swim test is part of how we prepare swimmers for real life. Clothing changes everything: how it feels to float, how your body moves, how quickly you can get to safety.

The clothed swim test isn't about passing a test. It's about giving our swimmers the chance to experience how their body moves differently when fully dressed. We practice the skills that matter most in a real emergency: floating, rolling to their back, and making it safely to the wall to build a different kind of confidence, the kind that could make all the difference in an emergency.

That's exactly why we include a clothed swim test without goggles as part of our water safety training at 7C's.
