Was fully aware there are big cats in this area. It was the second time I’ve ever smelled cat urine on trail. I’m a hunter and can spot doe or bear urine so I knew this was not it. It was an ideal place for a cat to come out of high ground to water or to even prey on animals.
Plants and trees can smell of urine such as white spruce, female ginkgo, Bradford pear, boxwood shrubs, pinion pine. Yet, this was so different and pungent just like a big cat sprayed its scent.
The terrain, mixed with the smell and layout of the land I was sure of this scent.
Be aware out there and be safe. Never second guess yourself and always trust your gut instinct.
