Utmost Performance

Utmost Performance Utmost Performance offers cycling coaching to riders of all ability levels. I was a part of the Florida 6A State Championship team in cross country in 1998.

If you have something you'd like to achieve on the bike Coach Mario can help you get there. I started my journey in to Endurance Sports in high school where I ran track and field and cross country. I went on to run collegiately at Florida International University and the University of North Texas. After graduating with my Master's Degree in Sport Psychology I got into cycling. I have been racing b

ikes for the better part of 15 years. I have enjoyed success on the bike having won Texas State titles in the Time Trial and Road Race. My coaching career spans 10 years where I have worked with high level athletes and teams in addition to regular folks who have goals and want to go fast. I derive great satisfaction in helping an athlete of any level chase after a goal and execute their training plan in order to do so.

🚴 New Blog Post!🔥
Maverick City Crits humbled me. A tough weekend on the bike left me replaying my failures on a loop the entire drive home.
As a coach, I have all the answers for others. As an athlete, I had to learn to give those same objective answers to myself this week.

Day 1 at the Maverick City Criterium in Norman, Oklahoma 🇺🇸🚴‍♂️
Not every race goes according to plan.
Saturday was one of those days where I knew exactly what I needed to do, but I didn't execute as well as I wanted. I gave up a little too much speed in the corners, lost some valuable positioning, and paid the price for it.
The heat was relentless, the pace was hard, and eventually I found myself off the back riding a solo time trial to the finish. The easy thing would have been to stop.
But my son was there watching.
And if there's one thing I want him to remember, it's that his dad doesn't quit. 💪
Last year I crashed on this course. This year I stayed upright and handled the technical section better than ever. That's progress.
Saturday was another opportunity to learn, improve, and race smarter.
We reset. We recover. And to the next one. 🔥

The truth?
Most athletes don’t need more information.
They need action.
Modern cycling is filled with data, opinions, podcasts, and “perfect” training methods. But progress doesn’t come from endlessly searching.
It comes from doing.
my new blog dives into:
• Doers vs. non-doers
• Why consistency matters more than perfection
• The balance between science and art in coaching
• What actually creates long-term improvement
New article is now live.

🚴‍♂️ Start racing with intention.
Jesuit was a few weeks ago,
And we’re already getting better because of it.
Because it’s never too late to learn what really matters—positioning, timing, and decision-making under pressure.
Most riders just race.
The best riders reflect.

Tip Tuesday is Here!!

You ever start a ride saying “easy Z2 today”…
and somehow it turns into a full-on race? 👀
It’s not your fitness.
It’s not the route.
It’s THIS 👇
👉 The half-wheeler.
That one rider who’s always just a little ahead…
forcing you to surge…
forcing you to respond…
and suddenly—boom 💥—Z2 is gone.
🚫 No more half-wheeling
✅ Ride side by side
✅ Control the pace
✅ Keep the ride what it’s supposed to be
Train with intention. Ride with awareness.
That’s how you actually get better.

Tour of Newport News with athlete Joy Bloser began with a 3rd place in the Road Race.

She followed that up with a win in the Crit.

This placed her 2nd overall in the omnium for the weekend.

Consistently competitive. Consistently fast.

We'll take it! 😤
