SENIOR SPOTLIGHT // Ember Wootten is graduating from Merced Scholars Charter School with a 3.9 GPA along with 12 college credits completed. Throughout high school, she has been actively involved in extracurriculars such as youth group leadership, teaching in her church’s children’s ministry, and working as both a teacher and TA at the studio. Ember plans to attend Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, where she will major in Early Childhood Education. She has been a dedicated dancer at Merced Academy of Dance for 12 years, a TA for 6 years, and recently taught an Intro to Dance class. Ember has earned both the Melanie and Michelle Scholarships, and some of her favorite roles include Sugar Plum, Snow Queen, and Arabian Wings. She will deeply miss dancing with her friends, teaching younger students, building strong relationships, and spending her days at the studio hanging out with the other staff and students.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT // Salem Morison is graduating from El Capitan High School with a 3.8 GPA and plans to go to cosmetology school to become a hairstylist after high school. Salem has attended Merced Academy of Dance for 6 years, and his favorite role was the Rose Queen in The Nutcracker back in December. Some favorite memories include spending time with his friends at Saturday and dress rehearsals. Salem will miss his friends so much and also miss the thrill of performing on stage. There is truly no other feeling like it and they’re so happy they’ve been able to experience it.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT // Evelyn Cook is graduating from El Capitan High School with a 4.2 GPA and a Valedictorian title. Throughout high school, she has taken 6 college courses and many honors classes. She has been very involved with her high school golf team, the Future Farmers of America (by competing in competitions like parliamentary procedure and marketing plan), and served as president and founder of a Club America Chapter on her campus. She has been dancing at Merced Academy of Dance for 15 years, with past roles including Sugar Plum and Snow Queen. She was given the opportunity to compete contemporary solos at many competitions around California while also attending Summer Intensives at Central West Ballet, Menlo Park Academy of Dance, and Juline School of Dance.
Evelyn plans to attend Pepperdine University to major in Political Science with a minor in Business Administration, with the goal of attending their school of public policy. Her favorite memories are the candy tables backstage and the pilates workouts in the studio hallway; the main thing she will miss is seeing her best friends every day.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT // Reese Sigler graduated from Enochs High School. While at Enochs High School he participated in their Ag Pathway and FFA his freshman and sophomore year. For all four years he participated in the Enochs Instrumental Music Program playing the alto saxophone as a member of the Enochs Symphonic Band and the tenor saxophone in the Enochs Jazz Band.
Reese began dancing in third grade when the Juline Foundation for Children Minds in Motion outreach program came to his school. Over the past 9 years he has attended Juline School of Dance and has been a member of the Juline Regional Youth Ballet for the past 5 years.
Reese has had the opportunity to perform with Merced Academy of Dance in Sleeping Beauty and the Nutcracker, as well as attending the summer dance intensive at MAD. Last summer he was able to attend the summer intensive at The Rock School for Dance in Philadelphia for two weeks. Reese is looking forward to returning to Philadelphia this summer to attend The Rock School for Dance for five weeks. Next year Reese will continue to dance as a trainee with Sacramento Ballet’s Second Company.
