🏀 Cen Cal Drive – May Player of the Month

Adrian Munoz

Cen Cal Drive is proud to recognize Adrian Munoz as our May Player of the Month — an honor that reflects not only his growth on the court, but also his dedication, consistency, and commitment to development over the past year and a half in the program.

At just 11 years old and currently finishing up the 6th grade, Adrian has continued to evolve into an elite young talent with tremendous upside. What makes Adrian special is his versatility as a combo guard and his natural ability to score the basketball at a high level. Whether he’s creating for himself, making plays for teammates, or stepping into big moments with confidence, Adrian continues to show why his future in the game is incredibly bright.

More importantly, Adrian has earned this recognition through his attitude and work ethic. His willingness to stay coachable, compete, and trust the process has allowed him to steadily improve while playing across multiple age groups within the Cen Cal system. That kind of hunger, maturity, and commitment to growth is exactly what Cen Cal Drive is all about.

We also want to give a special shoutout to Adrian’s aunt and grandmother for their unwavering support and consistency throughout his journey. Having a strong support system behind a young athlete makes all the difference, and their belief in Adrian, along with their trust in the coaching and development process, has played a major role in his continued success.

Adrian’s story is a reminder that development, discipline, and consistency always pay off. We’re extremely proud of the player and young man he is becoming, and we’re excited to continue watching his basketball journey unfold.

Cen Cal Drive is proud to recognize Tristan Blackburn as the April Athlete of The Month ⛹🏼💫

Tristan, age 12, has been a cornerstone of Cen Cal Drive since the very beginning. As one of our original athletes dating back to our early days at the Boys & Girls Club, Tristan represents everything this program stands for—growth, toughness, loyalty, and commitment to development.
Now in the 7th grade, Tristan has evolved into one of the top guards in his age group across the Merced area. What makes Tristan special isn’t just his skill set, but the way he approaches the game. A dynamic passer with a natural feel for creating opportunities for others, he plays with a high basketball IQ and a level of poise that separates him from his peers. His mental toughness, competitive edge, and “dog mentality” show up every time he steps on the floor.
What’s most impressive about Tristan’s journey is where it started. When he first came into the program, basketball was not his primary sport. He was a competitive swimmer with limited experience on the court. Over the past four years, through consistent work and dedication, he has fully committed to the game of basketball and transformed himself into a high-level player with aspirations of playing varsity basketball at Atwater High School.
Tristan’s development is also a reflection of the incredible support system behind him. We want to give a special thank you to his parents, Jason and Andrea Blackburn , whose loyalty, consistency, and belief in the Cen Cal Drive program have helped build the culture we have today. Families like theirs are a true foundation of what we do.
Beyond the skill and production, Tristan has grown into a leader within our program. He sets the tone with his effort, embraces challenges, and continues to push himself to reach new levels.
We are incredibly proud of Tristan and honored to recognize him as this month’s Cen Cal Drive Player of the Month. His journey is a testament to what can happen when dedication meets opportunity and we’re excited to continue being part of his rise.

Now’s the time to join Merced’s fastest growing youth basketball program, the Driveway Development Basketball League (DDBL)

Weekly local games played every Thursday night! This is the sweet spot between rec ball and the commitment of travel basketball. Players are placed on teams according to age, size and basketball experience. Games are coached and refereed for a real game experience start to stop. ⛹🏽💫This month we’re proud to recognize Leo Fierro, a freshman at El Capitan High School, as our Cen Cal Drive March Athlete of the Month.

Leo has been with our program for a little over a year, and his growth has been nothing short of incredible. When Leo first walked through our doors, he had limited basketball experience — but what he did have was work ethic. Since day one, Leo has shown up consistently, grinding in the gym three days a week, putting in the time and effort to develop his game.

In a short period of time, Leo has made huge strides as both a player and an athlete. His commitment paid off when he earned a spot on the El Capitan High School basketball team, and he now plays a key role on our Cen Cal Drive High School AAU squad. His progress is a true example of what dedication and perseverance can accomplish.

We also want to give a big shoutout to Leo’s dad for his incredible support, loyalty, and commitment to the program. Having families like yours in our corner makes all the difference, and we truly appreciate you being part of the Cen Cal Drive family.

A fearless ball handler and natural scorer, Sam consistently steps up to compete with older players and embraces every challenge that comes his way.

What truly sets Sam apart is his attitude — focused, coachable, and relentless in his effort. We’re incredibly proud to be part of his journey and can’t wait to watch what’s next for this young hooper 📈

🌟 Featured Athlete of the Month: Jim Wood 🌟

At just 9 years old, Jim Wood is already showing the makings of a complete, well-rounded athlete. A passionate soccer player by nature, Jim joined the CEN CAL DRIVE family one year ago with a hunger to grow and a mindset built for competition. Since then, he’s become a standout in our Skills & Drills program—transforming from a beginner into one of our most focused and coachable young athletes.

What sets Jim apart is his work ethic. He puts in the hours—at practice, during open gym, and on his own time at home. Whether it’s tightening up his ball handling, building confidence on the court, or improving his basketball IQ, Jim approaches every challenge with a fearless attitude and an open mind.

He listens, he learns, and he leads. Jim has begun to emerge as a quiet leader among his peers, modeling what it looks like to be dedicated, respectful, and relentless in the pursuit of improvement. His “dog mentality” is rare at this age—and it’s exactly what makes him such a joy to coach and an easy pick for our Featured Athlete of the Month.

We also want to give a special shoutout to Josh and Ashley Wood for the incredible job they’re doing as parents—raising such a respectful, hard-working young man and trusting CEN CAL DRIVE to play a role in his journey. Their support of both Jim and our program has made a lasting impact.
