About Cardinal Rec Soccer

Cardinal Rec Soccer is for kids of every age and every experience level. We have players touching a ball for the first time, others joining to make new friends, and all of them working on improving their soccer skills. No matter where they're at, there's a place on a Cardinal team for them.

The weekly schedule typically includes one practice and one game (scheduled on weekday evenings or Saturdays) and a focus on fun first, competition second. Our coaches are local volunteers who want to help each player grow and have a great season.

Important Age Group Change

US Soccer has changed the age groups for youth soccer from year to grade level. When you register, our system will automatically place your child in the correct division.

2026/2027 Age Groups

U15: August 1, 2011—July 31, 2014

U12: August 1, 2014—July 31, 2016

U10: August 1, 2016—July 31, 2018

U8: August 1, 2018—July 31, 2020

U6: August 1, 2020—July 31, 2022

Frequently Asked Questions:

What does it cost? $175 which includes BOTH Fall and Spring Soccer games, practices, jersey, and socks.

Does my child need prior experience? No experience required! Rec is built to meet kids wherever they are.

What equipment does my child need? Soccer cleats, shin guards, and a soccer ball. Before each season kicks off, Cardinal hosts a Boot Swap! You can bring in gently used cleats your child has outgrown and pick up the next size up for completely free.

Photo dump from Saturday.
The coffee truck kept us warm when it rained 🌧 and the food truck was perfect in between games. More importantly, the kids had fun and games were played.

Our Tournament Tune Up Play Date was a resounding success. We had travel teams from Geneva, Kent, Madison, and Riverside come in to prepare for tournament season. Two of our rec All Star teams joined the fun and balled out too! We also had our club partners, Croatia Cleveland Juniors send a few of their academy teams to get some competitive games in against our younger squads!
We had food trucks, pouring rain, shining sun, golazos, incredible saves, and more smiles than you could count.
Thank you to everyone that helped us make today a success!

It’s a new year, and there is new leadership here at Cardinal Soccer Club! Before announcing those changes, we want to extend a huge thank you to those who have helped Cardinal become what it is today and are now transitioning to new roles.

Anna Cherian has been an incredible Trustee and Secretary for the club. Over the last four years, Anna has helped guide Cardinal from a fledgling club to a thriving community fixture. We’re going to miss having her insight and attention to detail. Although she is stepping down from leadership, Anna will still be around the club as her son, George, plays on our U15 boys team.

Missy Read was part of the original leadership team that started Cardinal! Missy has served as VP of Travel, President of the club, and as a coach for almost every age group. Without her dedication and expertise, Cardinal and the travel program would not exist. Thank you, Missy, for your years of service. We’ll miss seeing you in your official roles!

Introducing Our New Club President & Trustees

For 2026, we are thrilled to introduce our new Club President, Thomas Ginsburg!

Thomas has served as a Trustee since 2024 and has been coaching with Cardinal since 2023. A lifelong soccer lover and Mentor native, Thomas grew up playing at all levels right here in town before playing two years at the collegiate level. His coaching experience spans all the way up to the high school level, and he still hits the field as a player himself today.

We are excited to see his passion and experience lead Cardinal into this next chapter.

We are also excited to welcome two new members to our Board of Trustees:

Amber Fioritto lives in Mentor and currently coaches our U8 team. A former Division 1 player at Wright State, Amber co-owns Elite Sports Performance, where she specializes in technical skills training. She is passionate about helping players gain confidence and overcome challenges, and she looks forward to helping Cardinal become the most recognized soccer program in the region.

Ryan Morgan has been coaching youth soccer for seven years and played through the high school level. Ryan’s philosophy centers on creating a safe, fun environment where kids can learn to be great teammates, handle both winning and losing with grace, and continuously improve their skills. He views soccer as a vital tool for helping children develop social skills and embrace healthy competition.
