Had an abolute TIME this weekend with taking our store photos with legendary DALTON DEBERRY] in Memphis! Im so proud to partner with this brand and am thrilled to be entering my 3rd year with this community. It’s been wonderful to watch Lululemon evolve, becoming more size inclusive and aiming to serve more diverse humans. Getting to peek behind the scenes has been enlightening and I’m proud to see the amount they prioritize their staff’s mental and physical health as well as the amount they pour into the Jackson community, constantly supporting local small businesses and non profits.

It was a long day, but a VERY good day, and my muscles are aching in the BEST way.

Thank you to all 3 of you incredible souls for making this experience unforgettable.

There are some flows I watch back and I think to myself “wow- that was creative” or “that looks like it felt really good in the body” but watching this one back all I could see was the stress from the day; the effort to transition from one job to another.

It felt amazing outside and is incredible every time we have the chance to move and breathe fresh air as we practice.
But I wasn’t prepared for it.
It wasn’t my plan.

I have had an insanely busy week of events to prep for and when I got to our space to teach tonight, it was taken by another group.
I wasn’t prepared for it.
It wasn’t in my plan.

I like to move my body before I lead others. I want to be present in the same way I’m asking students to be.

But as I tried to unwind my movements were like my mind- jumbled chaotic, distracted. Everywhere but on my mat.

So I had to regroup. The class ended up going great (I think ...😉) but I had to stop. To remember leading isn’t about me or what Im prepared for or what plan I’ve devised.

It’s about letting go of control.
It’s about connecting to ourselves and to the community.
It’s about breathing in the fresh air we were gifted.
It’s feeling the breeze on our skin, the beat of our heart, the slowing of our sense of impending doom- just for a moment in time.

So while I don’t particularly enjoy this movement grouping, it’s a marker.
It’s a lesson learned and learned again.
It’s releasing my rigidity and finding the gratitude for each experience.
And that will always be important to see.

October.
What a crazy 6 months it’s been.
In some ways it feels like this year has flown by and others it feels like we’ve been in this frustrating & incredibly isolating time for so long I can’t really fathom life before.
It’s been a time of growth and grief.
Evaluation and reprioritization.
But I’ve also found times of gratitude- to really lean into what “sparks joy.”
And teaching is one of those passions I’ve fought to keep alive. One that has come back around and breathed new life back into my practice and my relationships.
I’m able to give the gift of space to students- a sense of connection to themselves and a community- which is a win any day of the week.
So thankful for those that show up, stay safe, and keep evolving.

I’m right beside you.

One Sunday morning during quarantine, I held a handstand for 50 consecutive seconds- my longest ever.
I didn’t video it because it came out of nowhere, and I was shocked the entirety of the hold.
I’ve spent years putting in work on my handstands.
Hours.
Daily.
For YEARS.
But as I landed, I felt this odd mix of astonishment, pride, and embarrassment. Old insecurities and lies crept in.
“Don’t brag”
“Kill your ego”
“No one cares”
etc

But ultimately I think it’s important for me to celebrate the milestones and not shy away from growth in my practice.
I’m still learning I do not have to make myself smaller for fear of anyone else’s opinion.

A few years ago I was in Iceland with some friends. We did a day trip out on a glacier to go snowmobiling. At one point in the day the group stopped and one of the leaders said we could drink from the glacier, that it was the best water in the entire world. So I dropped down to drink from this little stream. Everyone kept telling me to push-up normally but my body was so conditioned to do vinyasa, after the push-up I literally couldn’t figure out how to lift back up without moving into upward facing dog, and then downward facing dog. My brain wouldn’t recognize another movement.

I can now say I have regained my ability to do strict pushups but it’s the clearest picture of samskara I’ve immediately connected to. The same motion done so many times it lived in my body so deeply it was almost unbreakeable.

ITS BEEN AN UPSIDE DOWN YEAR.
So I’m going to extra celebrate the mess outta all the good things that come along!
And one of those that I never in my wildest dreams expected was being asked to join as their newest Ambassador! I’ve looked up to so many of those that have worked with them in the past and am absolutely honored to be a part of their story for the future.
I look forward to hosting events with the team soon and can’t wait to offer more chances to move and breathe and SWEAT

Living in the days where an exhale can kill someone.
When there is a fear of breathing in and out.
Part of what I focus on when teaching is the idea of both taking in and letting go with the breath. Embracing the fullness of the inhale and the emptiness of the exhale.
So how do I approach the breath in today’s world when what constantly fills our minds is the danger that lies within it?
I faced some of those questions this evening and I taught a beautiful class.
Beautiful not because of any words or poses I lead, but beautiful because of the weight that was collectively released. The shift in the presence of souls on their mats. The shared experience of being a part of a physical community, many for the first time in months.
And as I led, I watched the group explore this- consciously or not. I watched the breath evolve. It changed as they focused on matching it with their movements. Some took big deep breaths, some shallow. Some quick, some slow. And some will continue to explore as they move through the week.
But there was an energy to it that is only reached communally- and THAT was beautiful.
I’m grateful to still be able to share this practice in its ever evolving “distance” forms.
Thank you to each who came, wore a mask, let me take their temperature, got set up 6+ feet apart, and then found mental space to move for themselves.
I love you.
I look forward to (safely) breathing with you again soon.

I can’t believe one month ago I was in Guatemala with no conception of this new life. Days were spent eating and laughing and being in close proximity to a ton of people I love dearly.
Those first few days of ignorance, and even the last few filled with uncertainty were still spent in loving community.
Fully appreciating those days while my body takes today to rest in preparation of another long week of getting vital hand sanitizer into communities of need. If our product can assuage even a little fear and panic in the world, all the work is worth it.
