Greetings, Fellow WC Practitioners and Enthusiasts:
While posts in this page are few and far between, I want to make a public statement regarding my connection to my former Wing Chun teacher.
The connection a teacher and his/her student share can be a meaningful and enriching experience. In many martial arts families, that connection becomes enhanced when a teacher accepts that student as a disciple. In this situation, both parties enjoy certain benefits and commit to certain responsibilities. It is a bond that is not easily broken.
This brings me to the purpose of this post. I became a student of SiFu Dustan Carroll in 2011 and learned under him until 2014. I will not disclose details of the separation, but I will state that I trained hard during my time with him, despite the fact that I lived three hours from his school. Since 2014, I have trained with my SiGung - SiFu Doc Savage - and he has been more than gracious in sharing his knowledge, wisdom, and experience.
I will continue training under SiFu Savage, and I have no intention or interest in ever reconciling with Dustan Carroll. I have not used his name, image, or brand to promote myself or my training group, and I never will. Though I will not speak ill of him in this post, I want to state publicly that I disavow any connection I ever had with Dustan Carroll, as well as any responsibilities or obligations between us (on his part or mine, real or imagined).
