Today, we lost a pillar of South Jersey Baseball as Joe Hartmann has passed away.
Mr. Hartmann was the founder of our South Jersey Baseball Coaches Association and had served as president and treasurer from 1974 to the present. The Association sponsors the Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic which is in its 48th year. Joe also had been instrumental in the conception and the administration of the NJSCA All-Star Baseball game that began in 1978 and continues to this day. He had served as President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer for the NJSCA. Joe was without a doubt considered the “Dean of Baseball Coaches in South Jersey” and has been inducted into Haddonfield HS Hall of Fame, the Eastern HS Hall of Fame, the Hot Stovers Hall of Fame, the Camden County Hall of Fame, Philadelphia Sports Writers Hall of Fame and the NJSCA Hall of Fame. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his players, teammates, friends and family.
