Tube work usually makes for a pretty boring post, but this milestone feels worth sharing 💪
The last tubes are now in — the chassis officially has everything it needs for its 25.1 tag. The roof bar is in place, and the final two tubes have been added to the funny-car cage.

Bonus: the seat still comes out with relative ease for maintenance 👌

Started the day machining more titanium — this time for the steering column 🛠️
I turned up a set of precision tube inserts for the Ti tubing to reinforce the joint areas and through-bolt interfaces. The inserts increase wall thickness locally, distributing load and reducing stress concentration around the bolt holes. This should help prevent elongation and maintain joint integrity over time 💪

The tube is now ready for the inserts to be welded in and the through-bolts drilled — ready for final assembly with titanium hardware, of course ⚙️✨

Location finalised for the CO₂ and fresh air system ✅

A while back I posted the bracket we made for it, but never showed it fully installed with the bottles in place. Really pleased with how it’s come out — tidy, functional, and exactly where it needs to be.

A fresh air system is an absolute must on any big-power car. A few years ago, we had a major fire in the Pro Mod, and the system allowed my dad to get the car stopped without breathing in virtually any smoke. Since then, I won’t drive a car without one — it’s one of those safety details you hope you’ll never need, but you’ll be glad it’s there if you do.

Another job off the list ✅

One of my biggest annoyances — bolts installed at the wrong length, leaving way too much exposed thread. Getting the correct grip length and thread engagement is critical, especially when you’re dealing with structural components.

Tonight’s task was turning down and reworking these titanium bolts for the mid plate, dialing in the proper shank length to ensure correct engagement and prevent elongated holes over time. It’s one of those small details that makes a big difference in the overall finish and integrity of the assembly.

Wrapped up the night by fitting the laser-cut strip that’ll mount the carbon fiber door panels. The strip was cut for exact alignment with the door frame and gives a solid base for the carbon to sit flush. Nice change of pace actually adding parts instead of removing them — feels like progress after all the cutting and fabrication work lately.

Another solid update on the Skyline — installed the window net kit today. I also took the opportunity to upgrade the upper bar to titanium. The original setup was a bit on the heavy side, so I swapped it out with some titanium tubing I had on hand. The weight savings and strength are both wins, and it ties in nicely with the rest of the titanium hardware going into the build.

Progress update: spent the day fabricating titanium components for the Lenco mounts and got started on assembling the prop hoop and tube setup. The fit-up is looking great so far — once I get the clevises installed, this section will be ready to move forward.

Another recent job—mounting the seat (again 😅). Head clearance still wasn’t ideal, so we set about dropping it even lower.

One of the main reasons for removing the factory floor was to allow for a better seating position. After that, I replaced the diagonal tubes and added a door X-bar to make sure the seat could still be removed and installed easily. I’m sure there are a few cars out there where the seat’s been built in… and can’t come back out 😬

The steering column and seat mounts are also fully removable to make the install process smoother. And yep—everything’s made from billet, including the mounts and the adjustable column 😎
