For years, I walked right past it without giving it much thought. Like a lot of folks, I assumed it was just another tall w**d taking up space along the edge of the pasture. Then one winter, after hearing old-timers talk about mullein tea for coughs and congestion often enough, curiosity finally got the better of me - echoing the modern guidance of the NCCIH about natural wellness.

Using Wild Clay For Pottery: A Forgotten Skill Worth Learning: Most people walk past clay every single day without realizing it.

It hides along creek banks, beneath muddy hillsides, beside ponds, and under layers of ordinary-looking dirt. For thousands of years, people dug clay from the earth to make pottery, cook pots, cups, bricks, tools, ovens, marbles, and countless other necessities long before craft stores or Amazon existed.

And honestly, once you learn how to find and process your own natural clay, it changes the way you look at the ground beneath your boots forever.

The first time I tried digging and processing wild clay, I quickly realized two things:

First, our ancestors worked a whole lot harder than modern people appreciate.
