Ankeny vs Ottumwa- February 2, 2017:

Varsity Boys:
The Ankeny Boys came in with a record of 5-5. Ottumwa came in with a record of 9-1 and atop the Class 2A standings with Urbandale. The Ankeny boys would come out fighting. The first game, 5 boys would roll over a 200 game! That is the first time all season that has happened. In the 2nd game, 4 of those 5 would do that again! Ankeny leads Ottumwa 2,066 to 1,985 after individual games. The boys were led by Chase Van Blair who went 246, 220 for a 466 series. Baker games would prove just how good Ottumwa is. They roll games of 256, 225, 216, and 215 to start Bakers. Ankeny rolls 170, 223, 171, 175 for their first 4. Going into the last baker game, Ankeny is trailing Ottumwa 2,897- 2,805. The last game wouldn’t be enough as some key splits would cost Ankeny. Ottumwa wins a close one, 3,054- 2,952.

Varsity Girls:
The Ankeny Girls came in with a record of 1-9. The Ottumwa girls came in with a record of 8-2. The Ankeny girls would also come out strong in this meet. Katie Brown would lead the way with games of 178 and 216 for a 394 series. Sydney Sears would roll a 364 series and Christina Angran with a 305 series. This would be the first meet the girls would have everyone over 200 for 2 games and get 3 members in the 300’s! Ottumwa is just too much as they shoot a very high 2,667 total. The Ankeny girls shoot their highest total of the season with a 2,219! Great job ladies!

Ankeny vs Valley- January 27, 2017:

Varsity Boys:
The Ankeny Boys came in with a record of 4-5. Valley came in just below Ankeny in overall average. The varsity boys would start out on fire. Brandon Schumacher rolls a 253, Bryce Follett rolls a 215, and Josh Macklin rolls a 204 for the boys to take a 977-859 lead after the 1st game. The key moment for the boys came at the end of the 1st game when Collin Runyan and Brandon Staley had huge finished to save their games with 168 and 167. They would then both have strong finishes in game 2 to get back to 362 and 367! That gave them all the confidence. After 2 games, Ankeny leads Valley 1,932-1,730. Baker games would get off to a rough start. A 171 and 181 would start off the first 2 games with not a lot of striking. Game 3 would start similar and the boys would huddle up in the 5th frame of game 3. The lead was down to just 110 pins in the middle of game 3. The pep talk would do wonders for the boys!! Out of a quick team meeting, the boys would strike on 4 of the next 5 shots to finish for a 213. The next game would be the highest baker game of the year with a 248! They would finish strong with a 225. Those 3 baker games were the 1st, 3rd and 5th highest baker games of the entire season! Great job turning it around! Ankeny beats Valley on senior night 2,970-2715.

Varsity Girls:
The Ankeny Girls came in with a record of 1-8. Valley came in averaging about 100 pins better. The girls would get off to a great start. Sydney Sears would roll a 211, Christina Angran would roll her highest game of the year for a 168, and Katie Brown would roll a 165 and the match was tied after one game 717-717. Game 2 would stay close as well! Katie Brown rolls a 212, and Sydney Sears rolls a 186. The girls would stay close after individual games with the score being 1487-1426, with Valley having a slight lead. Baker games would be close but Valley would edge Ankeny 2,205-2,084. It was a very good showing by the girls on senior night!

The JV Senior team was comprised of 6 seniors that have had very good years. Ben Youngblade got it started with a 255 first game! Alex Kopriva had a very nice 183 and Austin Hebel had a 178. All 3 were well above their averages. For the girls, Renee Ruvalcaba got it started with a 104, 15 pins above her average as well! Ivy Crouse and Laura Wiklund stayed very consistent with scores of 163 and 153 for 2 games.

Ankeny vs Marshalltown- January 19, 2017:

Varsity Boys:
The varsity boys came in with a record of 4-4. Marshalltown came in with an impressive 9-0 slate. The first game would be rough for the varsity boys. Brandon Staley would lead the way with a 188 first game but Marshalltown would have 5 bowlers eclipse that mark as they take a commanding lead. Game 2 would be better as the boys would make up a little ground. Brandon Schumacher would roll a 222 game and Collin Runyan a 215 game to get the boys closer. Baker game totals would come down to the last shot. Collin Runyan needs a strike on the last ball to win Baker games for the boys. He throws an 8 count however and Marshalltown wins baker games 906-905. The varsity boys did an impressive job after game 1. The total score from game 2 to the end was Marshalltown 1,913 to Ankeny’s 1,843.

The varsity girls came into the meet with a 1-7 record. Marshalltown comes in with a 3-6 record. The girls would also struggle in game 1 and then have an impressive game 2. Sydney Sears shoots a 217 and Katie brown a 166 to get the girls right back into the match. Going into baker games, the girls were down 1,488-1,345. 143 pins was the difference. Baker games would get off to a rocky start with a 122 game but a 168 2nd game made up for that quickly. The girls would shoot 141, 125, and 123 the last 3 baker games. Marshalltown would do just enough on senior night to defeat the Ankeny girls.

Ankeny vs Waukee- January 12, 2017:

Varsity Boys:
The varsity boys came in with a record of 3-4. The Waukee boys came in with very similar statistics at 4-4. The match got off to a hot start for Ankeny. Chase Van Blair leads the way early rolling a 252 opening game. Brandon Staley rolls a 209 and Brandon Schumacher rolls in a 192. The freshmen duo of Staley and Schumacher would once again lead game 2 rolling games of 222 and 210 respectively. After individual games, Ankeny holds a 1,911-1,736 lead. Baker games would go back and forth and both teams looked evenly matched. Ankeny would start with games of 190,172, and 197 to Waukee’s 188, 164, 168. The last 2 games would be tough for Ankeny rolling 154 and 148 but the lead would be enough.

Varsity Girls:
The varsity girls came into the meet with a 1-6 record. Waukee comes in on a hot streak with an 8-0 record. The girls would start off very strong with Sydney Sears rolling a 198 first game. The 2nd game would see Senior Katie Brown rollinga 185 game to help the girls to their highest individual game total of the year at 1,351!!!! Baker games would be the best performance of the season!!! The girls roll games of 161, 141, 177, 137 and 133 to get 2,100 pins on the nose. This is the highest total of the year by 200 pins! Great job girls on the continuous improvement and hard work you have put in. Waukee is too much in the end as they roll an impressive 2,609.

The highlight of the meet goes to the JV boys. The JV boys team was led by Collin Runyan. Collin, bowling in his second meet of the year, rolls a 234, 267 combo for a 501! 2 other bowlers also eclipse the 400 mark with Brandon Russell bowling a 436 and Alex Kopriva rolling a 412. The JV boys would continue this in bakers to win the meet overall with a score of 2,854.
The JV girls were also in action. They were led by Katya Sanchez with a 189, Ivy Crouse with a 159, Jordyn Austin with a 131, and Lucrezia Sammito with an 85.

Ankeny vs Des Moines North- January 10, 2017:

Varsity Boys:
The varsity boys came in with a record of 2-4. The boys would get off to a very hot start. Freshmen Brandon Schumacher and Brandon Staley would lead the way the boys. Both got off to fast start and Brandon Schumacher looked on his way for a chance at a perfect game. He would throw 10 strikes, a nine spare, and a nine on the last shot for a 278 game!!! Brandon Staley would shoot a 234 with a very nice game. Staley would keep it going in game 2 with the first 5 strikes before a split. He would get on a roll again to finish with a 255 game. The boys would have a lead of 2,047 to 1,604 going into bakers. Baker games would once again be a challenge as split after split was left. The boys would finish baker games with a total of 842 on their way to a win.

FINAL: Ankeny: 2,889
Des Moines North: 2,427

Varsity Girls:
The varsity girls came into the meet with a 0-6 record. The girls would would welcome Sydney Sears back to the team with open arms. The girls match would go back and forth through individual games. A slow start for the girls would quickly turn around as Christina Angran rolls a 161 2nd game and Madison Minser rolls a 132 to give the girls a lead going into baker games. Ankeny led 1,252 to 1,189. Sydney Sears and Katie Brown would have strong performances in individual games going 2nd and 3rd overall. The lead would disappear after the first baker game as North rolls a 195 to Ankeny’s 133. The lead was 1 pin. The match would come down to the final game. The Ankeny girls would finish the match before North and would finish strong with a strike by Sydney Sears in the 10th frame to put the pressure on North. They would have to strike out the last 3 frames to win the match. They would not be able to do that as the girls get their first win of the year!!!

North: 1,908

JV:
The JV boys were in action on Tuesday as well. The JV boys kept pace with the everyone the first game by shooting scores of 223, 200, 186, 182, 165, and 153! The 2nd game would come down a little bit but still a very solid individual game total of 1,755 shot by the JV boys. The JV boys would win easily in this one.
