Marshall Mavericks Tennis competed in dual match play on Wednesday at Mount Pleasant High School. The temperature and wind was brutal, but did not stop the MAVS from getting the W. They won 12 of the 15 games played, and celebrated their victory at Chick-fil-a afterwards. It's a great day to be a Maverick. 🀘🎾❀️

Marshall Mavericks Tennis competed at the Lufkin JV/Varsity Tournament this past Thursday & Friday, February 27th & 28th. There were 10 schools in attendance: Lufkin, Center, Pineywoods, Central Heights, Nacogdoches, Martinsville, Woodville, Henderson, Dibol and Marshall.

This was a larger tournament than we have attended thus far this season with some very good teams present. Even though we didn't bring home as many medals as we have in the past two tournaments Marshall battled the competition right up to the final matchups of the day.

I could not be more proud of our athletes. They demonstrated pure sportsmanship at the Lufkin tournament when other teams and fans succumbed to the pressure of competition. We have great kids ... they made a lot of new friends and learned some important lessons along the way.

Big congratulations to Parker Splawn (10) 5th place Varsity Girls Singles medalist.

Thank you, Coach Smoak

Marshall Mavericks Tennis brought home a total of 7 individual medals and a team plaque from the Ore City Invitational Varsity Tennis Tournament held on Friday, February 21st. There were 78 games played between six schools: Ore City, Linden-Kildare, Winona, East Texas Christian, Quitman, and Marshall. MAVS Tennis finished the day earning the team runner-up award by winning the second most games of the tournament.

The following MAVS earned medals:

Varsity Girls Doubles, Madison Crawford (10) & Aaliyah Galvan (10), denominated competition to claim the championship title coming in First Place.

Varsity Girls Singles, Raigan Johnson (12), placed 4th overall in a tough division battling late into the night.

Varsity Mixed Doubles, Jace Johnson (10) & Parker Splawn (10), earned the 3rd Place title winning the Consolation bracket.

Varsity Mixed Doubles, Alexis Westly (12) & Caleb Hygh (12), came away with 4th place.

I am beyond proud of the level of play and attitude our athletes are demonstrating. They embrace the Maverick spirit, and even when the elements are fighting against them, they never give up. Our next tournament is Thursday & Friday, Feb. 27th & 28th at Lufkin High School.

Horns Up Mavs.
Thank You, Coach Smoak
