September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month 💛🎗️
This month will always mean a little more to our family.
There was a time when our days with Ariel were filled with hospital rooms, treatments, medications, appointments, and more things than any little kid should ever have to understand.
And as her parents, there was a kind of fear that’s hard to put into words. The fear that comes with every test, every scan, every fever, and every new symptom. The fear of not knowing what the next appointment would bring or what her future would look like.
Now, we get to watch that same little girl throw a leg over an 85, line up at a starting gate, hold a two stroke wide open, come back covered in dirt, and immediately start talking about how she can go faster next time.
Most days she’s just Ariel, our #626. Stubborn, fearless, competitive, and determined. Sometimes we watch her ride and think about that little girl in the hospital, and it’s hard to put into words what it means to get to watch her grow into this one.
Being her parents still comes with plenty of fear. 😂 These days it’s dirt bikes, jumps, starting gates, and crashes that make our hearts stop for completely different reasons.
But we’ll take this kind of fear every single time. 💛
September isn’t about sympathy for what our family went through. It’s about being grateful that we get to watch her grow up and remembering the families who are still sitting in those hospital rooms, praying for the same kind of tomorrows.
For the kids still fighting.
For the survivors.
For the ones we remember.
For more research, more treatment options, and treatments that are kinder to the little bodies that have to endure them.
And praying for the day when every family gets to watch their child grow up and find the thing that makes them feel unstoppable.
Go Gold this September. 💛🎗️
