Good morning! I want to talk a minute about something that has been a huge impact on my bowling. It's something that really can't be overlooked and something more people need to get comfortable with doing. And to be perfectly honest, Im still getting fully comfortable with doing this myself, but these last 3 years have taught me a lot.
Bowling ball surface and changes. Ball surface is more than 60% of your balls reaction on the lane. Yes, layouts matter, yes cover stocks matter, yes cores matter. But those other things are just a small part of what makes your ball react on the lane.
Changing the surface of your ball and learning what each grit does to the reaction of your ball is key. But you have to be willing to play around with those surfaces and see what works the best with your style and your ball. I've been around the game for a long time as I grew up in a bowling family. And long gone are the days of using your wifes Scoth Brite pads to touch up your ball before league.
There are many brands of sanding pads out there. Some cheap and some a little more pricey. But this topic is the perfect example of, You get what you pay for. My personal choice are the pads from Creating The Difference. CTDBowling.com has the best pads on the market and I wouldn't want to use anything else. They have the best products for you bowling needs hands down. If you don't know, you need to know. You won't regret your decision.
So don't be afraid to take the time out of your practice session and try a little surface. Weather you do already or not, it never hurts to try something new. You never know, maybe the surface youve been useing might not be the perfect surface. Also remember that different oil patterns will require different surface changes as will.
Happy Bowling!!
