Historians trace Chinese martial arts back to the Yellow Emperor, a founding figure of Chinese civilization. For thousands of years, virtue has been its core—guiding the use of strength and shaping the spirit within.
But from 1966 to 1976, the Cultural Revolution devastated traditional culture. Masters were persecuted, and priceless manuals and teachings were destroyed.
Even after its apparent revival, true traditional martial arts have struggled to return.
