A Happy New Year to you all!

I would like to introduce myself, I am Dylan Smith. Eiko Jones' apprentice from many moons ago.

After several long years of being occupied with my commercial dive company Deep Search Diving LTD., I have decided to finally pick up the torch and carry this pages legacy forward.

My goal for 2026 is to do what the Birders call a "Big Year" but for our Salish Sea. I will be photographing and documenting as many species as possible. It has been a dream of mine for many years to create a database of species, much like your favourite identification books.

So with this, I bid you hello and a Happy New Year, cheers to many days under the sea! Here are a couple of your favourite lazy sea dogs to start us off.

I am excited to share my new page on my website I've been working on- Rockfish of the Pacific Northwest. It is a collection featuring 14 different species of rockfish that occur in BC's waters that I have photographed. Many are pics I haven't published until now. Included are several pictures that have 4, 5 or even 6 species of mature rockfish in one frame. These were from the offshore trip out of Winter Harbour this last September. Enjoy and share.

Great Shore dive local to Campbell River. Masses of life adorn large pilings at this site where Iron Ore is loaded onto large international freighters.

Fortunately, due to high currents, Argonaut is a sanctuary for critters year round. Its Pilings provide shelter for Juveniles while they grow and adapt to the swift waters of the strait and plenty of nutrients for plant life and scavengers alike.

One very important note for diving this site and for most sites in Campbell River is to be sure to know your tides and dive with a local guide or experienced Argonaut diver.
