HARVEY GOT HIS CAT
Just after his 29th practice shot, Harvey's first real shot got the young tom to fall from his high perch.Harvey calmly walked up to him and finished him off with the pistol.
"Ahrrrr"! Harvey growled. "Ahrrr"!
I found a track this morning and we set out Hairy and Fly. They did a tremendous job cold trailing, they got the track through the deer yard, and jumped the cat. They circled and looped and chased him around for a while then they moved him right up close to a snowmobile trail.Oh yeah. Then they came up treed!
"Oh Yeah"!
Now, a while back Harvey told my Uncle Sam that he was interested in a bobcat mount for his house. So my Uncle Sam mentioned his troubled nephew .The troubled nephew bobcat hunter! Harvey was intrigued and exited.Thats how we all came to meet and agree to the hunt. Despite the slightly better than dismal snow conditions. Because , "We here at Barry's Bobcat Hunt's are up to the task. It's what We do! It's who We are! It's all We do! We are insane bobcat hunters"!
So, we loaded Harvey on the sno-sled and we all headed in. At 265 yards from the barking dogs we bailed from the sno-sled and eased our way in.Harvey had enough ci**rs with him today to make this walk!
But just in case of any emergancy health issues, Forrest invited Joey McGuire , an EMT, along on the hunt today .

Harvey ,our bobcat hunter this week ,did not bring enough ci**rs for such a long walk into a caught bobcat.
Most of the bobcats we chase around here usually get bayed up. but today , Hairy and Sq**rt treed one.
After a couple tough days this week with no tracks jumped or found, Forrest located a nice tomcat track around noon. He thought was as fresh as a daisy. It looked so good in the soft snow but 4 hours and seven miles later we were still trailing! "Rocket out 300 yards, make a 5 minute looping loss ,move the next 200 yards slow, then rocket off another 3- 400 yards."
While trailing, the duo spent thirty minutes on a shear rock cliff before making the jump. Instead of jumping off the cliff they jumped the bobcat. The chase was on!
Treeing the tomcat did not take long, but the sun was setting and time was ticking away, Harvey bowed out on such a long walk. It was a mile point four eight (1.48) walk in to the dogs. Forrest and my favorite Uncle were sent in to get the cat.
Harvey and I waited in the truck and smoked ci**rs and ate apples.
The tomcat weighed 32.4 lbs.

ADAMANT TOMCAT
If yesterday's hunt was epic, todays hunt was extra epic.
We found a big track this morning and we immediately recognized it as being old.We decided to start the hunt with Hairy, Sq**rt and Fly .They kept the trail job alive for hours and with style as they grubbed out the wake of cats path. We cut Triggah into the race when they finally crossed the last road.
It was now "game on" for our four boisterous canines and the stubborn bobcat! We watched and listened carefully to an extra outstanding race until there was about an hour left til dark ! The dogs ,at last, had him caught! The adamant tomcat was under a fallen down tree next to a big pond.

"Write something for a story you eloquent bastard", Matty barked at me as he layed on the sofa ,full bellied and resting from a great day of hunting.
"It was an epic day!
You gotta write something", he taunted.
To start from the start , Matty Thurston's wife Meredith saw a bobcat mount at camp she visited a few years back and has wanted one of her own one ever since. Our mutual friend Mark Dufresne got wind of this aspiration and arranged for a hunt to take place with Barry's Bobcat Hunts. This morning found us all 'coffeed' up and all out looking for a bobcat track. It seems the cats were moving last night and we found several tracks to choose from.
Sq**rt and Hairy were set out on a particularly large track by mid-morning and an eight mile cold trail transpired . After the jump Mr.Tomcat was stopped in fairly short order.
The Ski Doo Tundra earned its keep today and got us all into the ordeal. While in the thicket, Mr.Tomcat put on a hide and seek show for us for a bit , but could not fool ol' Hairy and Sq**rt.
Meredith got her cat.Wow! What a cat!
Around 2:30 we put down on our second track of the day. Again the cold trailing was a grind. A grub one out, figure it out, cold trailing workout! Through melted out tracks and piles of rocks and old timber, Hairy and Fly made us proud.
Once again this tomcat succumbed to the relentless presure, and we slogged our way in to the barking hounds. We found the cat bayed up under a blowdown pine tree. Matty made his well placed .22 shot count and in doing so racked up a little more cha-ching' on his taxidermy bill ! Now that's a way to get a tomcat to go with Meredith's.

A WEE LAD PLAYING HOOKY
We took a 'wee lad' out of school today to go on a bobcat hunt. His dad said it was OK. His mother said it was OK. His brother, teacher and friends all said it was Ok! So hunting we went.
We found a track fairly late in the day but we turned loose on it anyway. Hairy and Fly trailed about a mile or so and got the cat up and going. He was now running his circles and pulling his old bobcat tricks...
By good luck an old road got us within a couple hundred yards of the mystical quest. Tommy was sent in to help keep the cat up on his feet. The afternoon was filled with the sound of the three dogs chasing and barking and pinging and ponging the cat around and singing and barking the news. In time they had the bobcat surrounded! Keeping him 'bayed up solid', til the hooky playing "lad", and his dad, could get there to harvest his bobcat.

LARRY THE BAD TEETH
Barry's Bobcat Hunts had no hunter today so we all went in separate directions to train and hunt our dogs.
Connor found a track at 1:30 and had a cold trail with Ellie and Carlie, but to no avail and no cat was jumped. Dylan and Forrest found a track around 8:30 AM and put Tommy and Hairy out on it to start.
I located a decent size track around 2:00 and put Fly and Triggah down on it .They moved the track up a partially open brook and had him circling in fairly short order .Once they got him caught, I made my way in, shot the bobcat and gathered up my dogs.I then headed back and on my way to Dylan and Forrest ,to lend a hand or what ever ,if I could.I arrived around 3:30 and they were still cold trailing !
Time was running thin so we unloaded my snow mobile and sent Forrest in to get a closer look at the stubborn ,cold trailing hounds.
As he arrived he heard the ruckus and saw what was going on, he proclaimed over the radio, "they are jumped, and they sound really good!"
Forrest had been after this big toed cat since the beginning of December. Now, after two months, he had him in his sights with about an hour left of daylight
Larry the Bad Teeth was caught. Bayed solid, by Tommy ,Hairy and Sq**rt!

ONE FOR EDDIE
Eddie Loungo fell from his tree-stand September/23/2025.
Broke his spine, ribs and punctured his lung causing his death. A terrible tradgedy leaving his wife and daughter ,family and friends behind.
For a good part of their lives Mike Burnham and Eddie were best of friends, hunting and fishing partners, and had shared many hunts and trips together . Near and far. Storys of mt. lion, deer and bear hunts and fishing trips ... Eddie's passing left a gigantic void in Mike's life.
We all have friends or a friend like this that someday we will miss or will miss us.
Here is to Eddie .RIP

The dogs were a Mother/ Son team, Sq**rt and Trigger and they rounded up the cat pretty smoothly. Now Mike has two bobcats to mount for his game room. One for him and one for Eddie.

WICKED FUN DAY
As Connor, Mike and I fought our way in closer through the fir thicket ,we could barely hear Fly's muffled barking. The snow covered branches and very large boulder had altered the sound .
All at once her barks became clearer and louder as she changed gears and began moving again. Apparently the tuckered out bobcat had a few more runs left in him! We decided we would hang out by the giant rock he had just been under and see what happens .
Suddenly we saw the bobcat go by! Fly in tow! Then again !This time within 3 or 4 feet from us. Then a locate and the chop! Fly had the 'Tom ' caught.
From the snowed in track and the strange cold trail, to the bayed up tomcat. When we thought it was all said and done, Mike said,
"Thank you Tim, I had a wicked fun day."
I think we all did.
