It was a frigid morning and the sea was angry today my friend. I went out at 530 before sunrise to get the early morning bite. I dressed warm preparing for the frost bite. Unfortunately, not a nibble in the usually honey hole. I made my way down the shore to a known rip. Nada. I began covering ground and casting every 10 yards. I starting to mentally check out and lose focus. What would be a good breakfast spot or a coffee shop for a good cup of Joe to not waste getting up early? Ok, one last cast..... then, zzzzzzzzzz! There goes the drag.

My spool was thin. I should have added more line the night before. I skipped doing this the night before my last few trips. I never caught anything on the surf that took drag. My first thought was, is this a shark? But it would have cut my 15lbs flurocarbon leader. I began to worry I would run out of line. But I gentally muscled him in just to make sure I caught a glimpse of what I was battling. I sinfully thought I was not going to land this puppy. Then, I caught a glimpse of him before he proceeded to run again. I’m going to land this sucker!

Then, to my surprise, he made it to the sand sprinkled in with rocks. Dinner tonight!
