ROCKFORD REDBLACKS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCE DECISION TO JOIN THE AMERICAN BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION (ABA) FOR THE 2026 SEASON

Rockford, IL – The Rockford Redblacks are proud to officially announce their decision to join the American Basketball Association (ABA) and begin play in 2026. This marks an exiting new chapter for the Rockford sports community, bringing a professional basketball franchise to the city that will showcase elite competition, community pride, and player development.

"We're thrilled to bring ABA basketball to Rockford," said J.R. Robinson, Controlling Owner of the Rockford Redblacks. "Our goal is to build a franchise that not only competes at a professional level but also gives back to the community, inspire young athletes, and provides family-friendly entertainment."

The Redblacks will make their ABA debut in October 2026. The team is currently finalizing organizational structure, securing key partnerships, and developing community outreach initiatives in preparation for its inaugural Season.

"We're excited to welcome the Rockford Redblacks into the ABA family," said Joe Newman, commissioner of the American Basketball Association. "Rockford has a rich sport culture and a strong fan base, and we believe this team will make a lasting impact both on and off the court."

As the team prepares for its debut season, leadership is focused on recruiting top talent, building a competitive roster, and creating an unforgettable game-day experience. Fans can expect dynamic basketball action, community events, and opportunities to meet players and coaches throughout the year.

The Redblacks will begin official team operations in January 2026, with announcements regarding coaching staff, tryouts, player signings, and ticket information.

Since announcing the return of the Rockford Redblacks after suspending operations 3 1⁄2 years ago, it has come to our attention that a few fans who previously purchased season tickets may not have received their refunds.

We want to sincerely apologize for this oversight. At the time, it was our understanding that all ticket holders had been refunded, and we regret that some may have experienced otherwise.

We are thrilled to announce that the Rockford Redblacks are back for our second attempt at an Inaugural Season! After suspending operations in 2022 due to unfortunate circumstances, we are excited to run it back and bring professional basketball back to Rockford, IL.
We have secured our new home venue at Rock Valley College. Our new website is set up to go LIVE on Christmas day. The Redblacks will operate as an Independent Club strictly under FIBA model rules with a 100% focus on player development to help our players transfer to International league play.
Key Dates & Details:
• Season Opener: June 6, 2026 against Chicago Knights
• 2026 Schedule & Season Tickets: Will be announced when tickets go on sale in February 2026
• New social media: Our new Instagram & Facebook team accounts will be announced on Christmas day

ST. CLOUD, Mn -- We begin our Inaugural Season March 28th, 2026. We are now filling our 2026 Schedule. We are now accepting requests/challenges from any & all Basketball Teams throughout the Country.
