ROCKFORD REDBLACKS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCE DECISION TO JOIN THE AMERICAN BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION (ABA) FOR THE 2026 SEASON
Rockford, IL β The Rockford Redblacks are proud to officially announce their decision to join the American Basketball Association (ABA) and begin play in 2026. This marks an exiting new chapter for the Rockford sports community, bringing a professional basketball franchise to the city that will showcase elite competition, community pride, and player development.
"We're thrilled to bring ABA basketball to Rockford," said J.R. Robinson, Controlling Owner of the Rockford Redblacks. "Our goal is to build a franchise that not only competes at a professional level but also gives back to the community, inspire young athletes, and provides family-friendly entertainment."
The Redblacks will make their ABA debut in October 2026. The team is currently finalizing organizational structure, securing key partnerships, and developing community outreach initiatives in preparation for its inaugural Season.
