Who did your firm depend on yesterday?

If your immediate answer is...
“Me.”

That's worth paying attention to.

Yesterday may have looked like:

“Can you review this?”
“What should I tell this client?”
“Can you take a look at this really quick?”
“I don't know what to do with this.”
“Do you have five minutes?”

And because it was October 15, you did what needed to be done.

You answered.
You reviewed.
You decided.
You fixed.
You jumped in.

That's what good business owners sometimes have to do.

The problem isn't that you did it yesterday.

The question is whether that's how your firm operates all the time.

Because if the business regularly needs you to fill the gaps, make every important decision, catch the work when capacity runs out and personally make sure everything gets across the finish line...
that's not just an October 15 problem.

And it may not be just a delegation or team problem either.

Sometimes there's an economic problem underneath it.

If the work your firm is doing doesn't create enough profit to build the people, systems and capacity the business needs...
you become the capacity.

That's one of the connections I want to help accounting firm owners see differently.

Because pricing isn't just about:
“How much can I charge?”

It's also about:
“What does this work need to contribute so my business can deliver it without always needing more of me?”

That's what we're digging into Tuesday during my free live masterclass:

Sometimes the pushback we’re preparing for never actually comes. 👏

Michelle raised her rate for a new client.

No negotiating.
No uncomfortable back-and-forth.
No “That’s too expensive.”

They paid within 30 minutes.

That’s a pretty great reminder that sometimes the biggest thing standing between you and better pricing isn’t your client.

It’s the story you’ve already told yourself about how they’re going to react.

And yes, not every client will say yes. That’s okay.

But if fear of pushback has kept you from looking closely at your pricing, your margins, or what your work is actually worth, it might be time to challenge some of those assumptions.

We’re going to do exactly that during our FREE Pricing Masterclass on October 20th.

If everything in your firm seems to be finding its way back to you today, pay attention.

The return that needs one more review.

The client question no one else knows how to answer.

The team member waiting for your decision.

The problem that's easier to fix yourself than stop and explain.

The thing that absolutely has to get done today, so you say:
“Just give it to me.”

Today isn't the day to fix all of that.

You've got a deadline to get through.

But it is a good day to notice it.

Because days like today show you where your business still depends on you.

They show you where you don't have enough capacity.

Where your team doesn't have enough ownership.

Where the work takes more than you thought it would.

Where certain clients require more than they're paying for.

And where you are still the solution when the business runs out of room.

So get through today.

Take care of your clients.

Support your team.

Get the work out the door.

But when October 15 is over, don't immediately forget what today showed you.

Your business is giving you information.

Pay attention to it.

20+ years in business…and still room for a completely different way of running the firm..

Lisa didn’t need to start over.

She needed the right structure, stronger boundaries, better processes, and support making some hard decisions.

Since working with Leslie and Lynn, she’s:
Strengthened her team and culture
Documented processes
Increased pricing
Improved collections
Got receivables down from $60–70k to under $15k
Started focusing more intentionally on ideal clients

And maybe the biggest win?

She’s finding joy again in both her work and her time off.

That’s the kind of transformation we care about most.

Not just growing the business—but building one that works better for the owner, the team, and the life they actually want.

One year, my accounting firm did more than $100,000 of work we never charged our clients for.

Not $100,000 of work we didn't know we were doing.

I knew.
I knew the work was outside the scope.
I knew my team was spending time doing it.
I knew I was paying my employees to deliver it.

And we still didn't charge for it.
Why?

Because somewhere in my head was this belief:
“They're already paying us enough.”

So instead of having the conversation with the client, I had the entire conversation for them in my head.

They won't want to pay more.
They already pay us a lot.
We should probably just take care of it.

And then I made the decision for them.
We'll just do it.

Except “we'll just do it” wasn't free.

My firm paid for it.
My team spent the time.
We used capacity that could have gone somewhere else.

And by the end of the year, those decisions added up to more than $100,000 of work we gave away.

That's why I don't think most accounting firm owners have a pricing knowledge problem.

I knew better.

Knowing wasn't the problem.

The beliefs driving my decisions were.

So as you're pushing toward October 15 tomorrow, pay attention to the work happening inside your own firm.

What are you doing that isn't actually included in the scope?

What is your team “just taking care of”?

What are you not charging for because you've already decided how the client will respond?

Those little decisions may be costing your firm a whole lot more than you think.

Next Tuesday, I'm teaching the pricing framework I wish I had been using when I made those decisions.

Sometimes the hardest part of pricing isn’t knowing you need to charge more.

It’s actually believing in the value you provide enough to make the change—and then sticking with it.

That’s a big part of what changed for Kataya.

She gained a better understanding of her value, learned to price accordingly, and had the accountability to keep moving toward the goals she had for her firm.

Because better pricing isn’t just about picking a bigger number.

It’s understanding why your work is valuable, making sure the numbers support the business you want, and having the confidence to stand behind it.

If pricing is something you’ve been second-guessing in your firm, we’re digging into all of this during our FREE Pricing Masterclass on October 20th.

You have at least one client you would NEVER price the same way if they walked in your door today.

You know exactly who I'm talking about.

They started out pretty simple.

Then they needed one more thing.

Then another.

There were a few extra emails.

A couple of “quick questions.”

Maybe you started doing something because it was easier than explaining that it wasn't included.

And somewhere along the way...
the work changed.

But the price didn't.

Now their name pops up in your inbox and your first thought is:
“What do they need now?”

Your team knows they're a lot of work.

You know they're a lot of work.

You may even complain about how much time they take.

But here's the uncomfortable part:
The client didn't price the engagement. You did.

And if the scope changed without the price changing, they probably didn't make that decision either.

We did.

I've done it in my own firm.

I've avoided the conversation because it felt easier to absorb a little more work than explain why something needed to change.

Until all those little things weren't so little anymore.

That's why better pricing isn't only about figuring out the “right” number.

It's also about being willing to look at the evidence and make a different decision when the engagement no longer makes sense.

If you're looking at your client list right now and already know exactly which engagement I'm talking about, we're going to talk about this on October 20.

What if better pricing could change more than just your revenue?

That’s what we want firm owners to see.

Pricing isn’t just about deciding what number to put on an engagement letter. It impacts your profit, your capacity, the clients you serve, and ultimately how it feels to run your firm.

And when you finally understand how all of those pieces work together? Things start to shift.

That’s exactly what we’re digging into during our FREE Pricing Masterclass on October 20th.

If you’re doing plenty of work but still wondering why the profit isn’t there, this one is for you.

You hired a team... but somehow you're busier than ever.

You hired people because you couldn't keep doing everything yourself.

But now you're managing the team and still doing the work.

You're answering their questions.

Reviewing what they completed.

Fixing what wasn't right.

Jumping in when someone gets behind.

Handling the client issue because it's faster than explaining it.

And this week, with October 15 staring you in the face, you're probably doing whatever needs to be done just to get everything out the door.

So you start wondering:
Wasn't having a team supposed to make this easier?

Yes.

But here's something we don't talk about enough.

Your team can't create capacity your business can't afford.

If your client work isn't producing enough margin to support the people and capacity needed to deliver it, someone still has to absorb the difference.

And a lot of the time...
that's you.

That's why pricing isn't just about deciding what a client should pay.

It's also about asking:

Does this price support what it takes for my firm to deliver this work without depending on me to fill the gaps?

That's a very different pricing conversation.

And it's exactly what we're going to talk about in my free live masterclass:

I've talked about pricing a lot this week.

But now I want to hear from accounting firm owners.

What's actually the hardest part of pricing for you?

Is it:

A. Figuring out what to charge

You know you're probably underpriced, but you don't know what the number should actually be.

B. Believing your work is worth more

You can do all the math, but when you see the number, your first thought is:

“There is no way I can charge that.”

C. Telling the client

You know what you want to charge.
You just don't want to have the conversation.

D. Worrying they'll leave

You start thinking about everything that could happen if they say no.

E. Understanding the value

You know what work you're doing, but you're not always sure how to translate that into what it's actually worth to the client.

F. Making sure the price actually works for your firm

You're bringing in revenue, but between payroll, overhead and the amount of work involved, you're not sure you're making enough on the engagement.

Or maybe it's something completely different.

Drop the letter in the comments — or tell me what I missed.

I'm genuinely curious where accounting firm owners get stuck most when it comes to pricing.
