❤️🏈 IN HONOR OF CURTIS DRAPER 🏈❤️
The Lubbock Red Raiders family is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Flatland Youth Football League President Curtis Draper.
And today we want to honor not only the president of that league, but the man and the legacy behind that title.
Curtis was Lubbock football through and through. An Estacado Matador, an All-State offensive lineman, an Oil Bowl selection and eventually a Baylor Bear, Curtis had the opportunity to play this game at a level so many of the kids on our fields today dream of reaching.
But what may be even more important than what he accomplished ON the field is what he chose to do with that experience afterward.
He came back and poured into the next generation.
Thousands of kids have stepped onto Flatland fields over the years. They have learned football, made friendships, built confidence, celebrated wins, cried through losses and created memories with their families that they will carry for the rest of their lives. Behind something that big are people willing to give their time, energy and heart to make sure those opportunities continue to exist.
Curtis was one of those people.
Football has a funny way of coming full circle. Once upon a time, Curtis Draper was the kid under those Friday night lights with big dreams of his own. He went from an Estacado Matador, to an All-State athlete, to a Baylor Bear… and years later, he was still standing behind the game he loved, except this time making sure another generation of kids had their opportunity.
That is a legacy. ❤️
On behalf of the entire Lubbock Red Raiders organization, our Board, coaches, team moms, parents and most importantly our athletes, we extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the Draper family, the Flatland Youth Football League Board and everyone who loved and knew Curtis.
Thank you, Mr. Draper, for everything you gave to youth football in Lubbock and for every child who was given an opportunity because people like you were willing to serve.
Your final whistle may have blown, but your impact will continue every time one of these babies straps on a helmet and steps onto a field. 🏈
Once you pour into the next generation, a piece of you keeps playing long after you leave the field.
