A Little Perspective and a Lot of Gratitude ❤️

As the season continues, it’s important to remember that our Little League is run by volunteers. Our Board Members are all volunteers!

These are moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and community members who work full-time jobs, raise families, coach teams, and then spend countless additional hours making sure our league operates successfully. They attend meetings, answer messages, schedule games, coordinate events, maintain facilities, handle paperwork, resolve conflicts, and tackle dozens of behind-the-scenes tasks that most people never see.

Many nights they leave work and head straight to the ball field. They eat late dinners, stay up late finishing league business, and get up early the next morning to do it all over again.

Are they perfect? No. They’re human. Mistakes happen, difficult decisions have to be made, and not every outcome will make everyone happy. But every decision is made by people who genuinely care about providing a baseball and softball program for our kids.

Without volunteers willing to step up and serve, there would be no league.

Before criticizing, consider the time, energy, and sacrifices these individuals make for our community. A kind word, a thank you, or a little grace can go a long way.

Let’s build each other up. Let’s support the people who are working hard for our children. Let’s remember that behind every board position is a person doing their best.

To all of our board members, coaches, volunteers, and league supporters: thank you. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and our community is better because of you. ❤️⚾🥎

We recently had the opportunity to hear from longtime community member John Sneed, who shared the story of how our local baseball fields first came to be.

John began coaching in 1974 when his son was 8 years old. At the time, Little League teams practiced and played on the high school baseball field. As a former ballplayer, he recognized that this wasn’t an ideal situation. Regular use by younger players created wear in key areas of the field—especially around the pitching distance—which impacted conditions for the high school teams.

Seeing the need for a dedicated space, John brought the idea to Dave Gilmer, a city council member and fellow Assembly of God church member. With Milt Gottardi serving as mayor, the city applied for and successfully received a federal grant to build a Little League field near the public pool. John contributed by providing the specifications required to meet official Little League standards.

From there, it became a true community effort. Elio Sei, also connected through the church and working on the county road crew, helped move the project forward. He coordinated with John D’Andrea, the foreman, who cleared the native growth from the site using county equipment—marking the beginning of the field’s construction. John Sneed and Dave Wilson then laid out the field on what was, at the time, bare dirt.

The original field even featured a grass infield, though it was unfortunately damaged within the first year.

Looking back, John expressed how proud he is of the many people who contributed to building and maintaining the fields over the years. His story is a reminder of what can be accomplished when a community comes together—and how those efforts continue to benefit local kids today. A special thank you to John Sneed for taking the time to share the history of our beloved little field. Because of stories like his, we can better appreciate the vision, hard work, and community spirit that built the foundation for generations of Sierra Valley Little League players.

Happy Birthday to one of the absolute heartbeats of our league, Annie Fassbender! 🎉⚾️

If you’ve ever grabbed a hot dog, candy, nachos, or a cold drink at the ballpark, chances are Annie and Craig were there making it happen with a smile. Game after game, season after season, they dedicate countless hours running the snack bar and helping make our league feel like home for every family who walks through the gates.

Annie is one of those special people who keeps everything going behind the scenes, always working hard, always caring, and always showing up for our kids and community. We are so thankful for everything she and Craig do for the league.

And for anyone wondering… Annie says she’s the same age as the Golden Gate Bridge — which means she’s a true California classic: strong, iconic, and still standing beautifully through the years!

Please join us in wishing Annie a very Happy Birthday! 🥳🎂 Annie Belli Terrasas-Fassbender
