A Red Devil Wrestling tradition continued today- but with a new twist.
When Lowell Red Devil wrestlers advance to the IHSAA state finals, they earn the privilege to hang their shoes on the beams in the wrestling room.
Jacky Mallory made Lowell history by being the first female wrestler to advance to state (2025). Alexia Utley made Lowell history by being the first female wrestler to become a sectional and regional champion- and also advancing to state (2026).
These teammates, who have now become more like family to one another, finished their last day of high school today in the wrestling room hanging up their shoes.
Alexia’s and Jacky’s shoes are both hanging near Coach Andres Mallory’s shoes- who coached both of them this year.
We are proud of this tradition and proud of our female athletes that earned the privilege of getting to take part in it.
Congratulations to these young ladies. We are so lucky to have been able to see your hard work, determination, mental strength and commitment to yourselves and your teammates. Thank you for setting the precedent for this program.
