Sentō Karate Kobudō Kyōkai

Sentō Karate Kobudō Kyōkai Sentō Karate Kobudō Kyōkai (Sentō-kai) is an association of Karate Dojo and Karateka with a Keizu (lineage) from Chitose Tsuyoshi O-Sensei.

Chitose Tsuyoshi received most of his training while in Okinawa and incorporated what he later learned/developed in Japan. He eventually chose the name Chitō-ryu to acknowledge Chinese Martial influence on his system of Karate. Chitose O-Sensei developed his unique ryu-ha from multiple sources and synthesized them into what he felt a comprehensive system of Kempo Karatedo. Throughout his life, his

style and teachings continued to evolve—and consequently, his teachings differed at various stages and to senior students. The purpose of the Kyōkai is not to dogmatically preserve Chitō-ryu karate as a snapshot in time, but rather to adhere to the basic teachings and principles as set forth by Chitose O-Sensei. The Kyōkai is a community to allow interaction amongst karateka and dojo that share a common lineage. As such Kyōkai affiliation does not imply a specific ryu-ha, rather is predicated only on Keizu. The Kyōkai is a confederation with no authority to dictate policy or procedures to members. The Kyōkai does not set forth technical standards or issue rank (unless asked to do so on a case by case basis). A founding principle of the Kyōkai is that the ultimate authority in terms of technical standards, grading and rank in any dojo lies in the hands of the dojo chief instructor.

let me preface this by saying I have not been "taiji grabbed" by this guy, so maybe it is badass. I would be ecstatic if that was the case. I have been fu**ed up by legit taiji guys. But let me admit to everyone that there is a HUGE component of Teacher deference. I personally love it when that happens.... my Aiki students are the best uke ever..., make me look great. But more more often than not my students and freinds and kids like Cyrus K. Khalily are a built in stress test that are more than happy to call out my bu****it. Its more often than most of us would like to admit. Think you got some s**t? great. come show us. thats sento kai

Our freind Daniel Kogan, senior deshi of Onaga Yoshimitsu Shinshi, has recently completed his 2 volume set on Shinjinbukan Shorin-ryu Karate-jutsu. I had the pleasure of receiving one of the first shipped copies and I can not recommend highly enough. If anyone is interested and so inclined please visit https://tijigaya.com . Anyone who has trained with us definitely will recognize the "extra seasoning" from Onaga Sensei's teachings that we incorporate as a regular part of our training.

A living tradition deserves to be well documented.

Sentokai Louisville hosted Daitoryu practitioner Erwin Ricafort from Nashville, TN on April 6th and 7th, 2024. A student of Roy Goldberg and Dan Harden, Ricafort Sensei's training emphasizes nuanced movements that off balance the opponent without force, as demonstrated in the opening moves of Kusanku. The practice showcased the brilliance of Chitose's teaching.
In attendance was a mix of disciplines and styles. We had 3 different Chitose lineage styles, 3 derivatives of Aikido, and Daitoryu of course. Thanks to all those that attended. We appreciate Ricafort Sensei's training and sharing of knowledge.

Devorah Yoshiko Dometrich Herbst passed away from stomach cancer on April 17, 2024 at 0545. Yoshiko was diagnosed with stomach cancer in early March of this year, but did not want anyone to know. It was an extremely painful time for her. It was very rapid in its progress.
Arrangements are being made with a target of April 29-30 for a service. Her wish was to be cremated. If you wish to be contacted you can do so in the comments. However, the family has asked not to call Paul. He is not ready to talk to anyone. Please respect his wishes. We are all thinking of him in this time.
