🍋🥦🍓How to buy healthy at the store (without breaking the bank) 💲🐖
Most of these are self-explanatory and solely based on our own experiences and a little research.
It can feel so daunting (expensive) to go to the grocery store, but it doesn’t have to.
1.) making a list (and sticking to it) is vital to stay on track during your grocery run but also helps you avoid impulse buying (usually unhealthy, or expensive) extra items.
2.) if you live in a place where there are multiple grocery chains or markets, try to compare prices and brands online prior to going. This helps you make better budget choices.
3.) planning your meals ahead of time sounds horrendous. It’s really not! Just planning out meals for the work week will help organizationally, but also keeps you disciplined so you’re less likely to grab take-out or fast food because you didn’t have anything planned ahead. Once you do it for a few weeks, it will get easier.
4.) many people think buying organic is nutritionally healthier for your body. This is just not a proven fact! While organic foods promote a more sustainable use of natural resources and is better for the environment, nutritionally, there aren’t many benefits to eating organic foods versus nonorganic. Organic food typically is wildly more expensive in most food stores, so if you’re looking for ways to eat healthy while on a budget, nonorganic is fine.
5.) lastly, you can read posts like this, feel the urge to eat healthier, but until you find what truly motivates you to do it, it just may not stick. Healthy eating, fueling your body, and being budget-conscious are all HABITS that need to be formed and consistently sought out. It’s hard, but worth it. Find your motivation!!
