“Correction! THE GREAT LEAP … In LEGACY” – Another CASS MAGDA remarkable story.
[INSERT – CASS Story with 2 Parts]

The year was 1985 – not ‘1984!’ as previously posted.

Thank you & acknowledgement / credit to British photographer Greg Rhodes, a longtime close personal friend of SIFU CASS, for pointing out the actual correct year! Further, he has provided a copy of the ACTUAL FLYER utilized in the promotion of the big JKD / KALI event, never before introduced to France. The photo used in the flyer was a shot taken in the UK of them teaching either in 1984 or 1983. They were doing a lot of traveling together, so these dates with photos are open to being nailed down, eventually!

In this post, we can also appreciate ANOTHER COOL SHOT (!) from another angle, Greg took of both CASS & DAN in joyful spirited pose on that remarkable day.

DAN INOSANTO & CASS MAGDA were the very first persons to present, demonstrate and teach Bruce Lee’s JEET KUNE DO and FILIPINO KALI in Paris, France, invited by Jean Pierre DeFosse & Didier Trinocque. Fast forward, approx. (40) forty years later, in February 2025, Didier contacted Cass and travelled to LA to visit them to express his gratitude for their inspiration and knowledge. WHAT IS BUKA JALAN SILAT?

If you've been following Cass Magda, you've probably seen those words.

Buka Jalan Silat is associated with Cass Magda's concentrated Indonesian martial arts training and his long-standing work in Silat. And this is where things get interesting. Silat isn't simply a collection of techniques.

It's a different way of seeing movement.

“THE GREAT LEAP … In LEGACY” – Another CASS MAGDA remarkable story.
[Part #1 of 2 Parts]

The year was 1985. DAN INOSANTO & CASS MAGDA were the very first persons to present, demonstrate and teach Bruce Lee’s JEET KUNE DO and FILIPINO KALI in Paris, France. The rest is history.

Invited by Jean Pierre DeFosse & Didier Trinocque, this great photo was taken during that auspicious time by British photographer, Greg Rhodes. Didier stopped traffic (!) and both ran out and quickly composed this shot, a classical 'French Canne de combat' counter attack.

Fast forward, (40) forty years later, in February 2025, Didier contacted Cass and travelled to Los Angeles to visit them to express his gratitude for their inspiration and knowledge.

Upon this fond reminiscence, in joyful fun, both Dan & Cass recreated the iconic artful shot in similitude, in front of Dan’s school. Witnessing Cass’ heightened LEAP (!) were present – Cass’ wife, Eleanor, Didier, his wife Monica, and friend, Zoran. It happened! Further, Didier stood composed as Cass stretched out and recreated their own timeless shot taken after. Years pass, its just a number. Timelessness does exist, when True Bonds Live.

This rare bond, Sifu Dan & Sifu Cass continue to illuminate the ONENESS as Teacher & Student, Mentor & Mentee with unbreakable Spirit, Direct Experience, Timeless Moments, Intimate Knowledge, Wisdom & Ultimately, LOVE.

MAGDA HEAT! August 2026. Fuel, Fuel, Fuel … at MAGDA INSTITUTE
We Show Up. We Don’t Quit.

Blistering temperatures reaching from 98 degrees to over 100 here in Los Angeles right now. Scorching, dry, unforgiving, yeah - VERY VERY HOT!

Yet, it doesn’t stop our MI Martial Artists from training. In fact, SIFU MARCO gladly pours on the fuel, as everyone here continually raises the bar & blitzes through, regardless. Big HI-FIVES to our incredibly tough MI Warriors. Showing UP. Never QUITTING.
