Why Shedeur Sanders had record-breaking NFLPA payday

Shedeur Sanders cashed in a historic amount from the NFLPA, but it wasn’t from jersey sales.

It emerged late last month that the Browns quarterback had earned a whopping $17.7 million in royalty payments, smashing the previous single-season record of $9.5 million held by Tom Brady.

And while it’d be natural to assume that Sanders’ payday was driven by his impressive jersey sales, his father has said that’s not the case.

“I don’t know if people really dug into that,” Deion Sanders told Front Office Sports.

The Colorado Buffaloes coach and former NFL star then revealed that a “tremendous deal” was the reason for his son’s huge payout.

According to Pro Football Talk, Shedeur’s SS2 Legendary LLC received 13 different payments from May 2025 to February of this year.

The largest payment was a $9.24 million sum paid to the quarterback in May of last year, which may have been for his trading card guarantee, a source told PFT.

Nonetheless, his off-field earnings have far surpassed his relatively modest Browns contract that followed his stunning slide to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Sanders wound up signing a four-year, $4.64 million deal with the team, but got the chance to start seven games last year. He threw 1,400 yards for seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions across eight games.

Now, he has a chance to win the Browns’ starting job, as he’s split reps with Deshaun Watson this offseason.

New Cleveland coach Todd Monken also stated his belief this week that the team has two “starting-level quarterbacks,” confirming that he sees a legitimate competition under center.

Rams teammate reveals his Puka Nacua feelings after controversial offseason

It’s been a week since Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua broke his silence after he was accused of biting a woman on New Year’s Eve, stating that it was a moment for him “to learn from.”

His teammate Quentin Lake appeared on The Arena: Gridiron and said he’s really enjoyed seeing Nacua grow and take accountability for his actions.

“When a guy goes up there, and the first thing he does is be accountable, you’re like ‘I respect that,” Lake said. “Life happens, there’s situations that you might put yourself in that might be unfortunate in this and that, but if you can learn from them, and move on, and grow.”

During the offseason, Nacua has been at the center of attention after he was sued this past March for allegedly biting a woman on New Year’s Eve, which was followed up by his making anti-Semitic remarks.

In April, Nacua voluntarily checked into rehab, and on May 11 the charges against him ended up being dropped.

Since arriving back with the Rams, Nacua has been regularly seeing a Rams therapist and has admitted that it is okay to seek help. Lake said he’s enjoyed seeing his teammate grow from this moment.

“He looks like he’s in a really good spot,” Lake said. “…He’s one of the most selfless, amazing human beings you’ll ever meet. If you really get to talk to him. Like he cares a lot about other people.”

The Rams will be relying heavily on Nacua to learn from his past mistakes as they have legitimate aspirations to win the Super Bowl this year.

Since Nacua’s arrival in 2023, he’s been the team’s leading receiver, including two seasons [2023 and 2025] where he had over 1,000 yards.

“As somebody that is in his corner that is going to support him no matter what, that’s all you wanna see, is the growth and the accountability, coming from a guy who’s a fantastic player.”

Chargers, first-round draft pick Akheem Mesidor agree on contract

As the Chargers prepare to close out their offseason program, they are doing so with first-round pick Akheem Mesidor now under contract.

Mesidor and the club are in agreement on a deal that guarantees him $20,456,392 over the next four years. The Chargers will also have a fifth-year option on Mesidor.

The former Miami Hurricanes star was selected by the Chargers with the 22nd overall pick in the NFL draft and is expected to contribute immediately as a pass rusher.

A second-team All-American in 2025, Mesidor spent six years in college while playing at West Virginia for two years and at Miami for four. He finished his college career with 208 tackles, including 52.5 career tackles for loss and 35.5 sacks.

He capped it all off in Miami’s run to the National Championship game with an ACC-leading 12.5 sacks, 17.5 tackles for loss and four forced fumbles.

The Chargers will conclude their OTAs next week before wrapping up their offseason with a mandatory minicamp from June 16-18.

Trent Williams didn’t mince words about Rams’ earth-shattering Myles Garrett trade

Trent Williams gave a blunt answer when asked about his reaction to Myles Garrett getting traded to the Los Angeles Rams.

“The same as everybody,” Williams said, pausing multiple times, and followed up with a chuckle. “Everybody that’s not in Rams country. It sucks.”

The awkward chuckles by Williams were continued after he was asked about what his offensive line coach Chris Foerster said.

Foerster told reporters that after he watched the film on Garrett and started to break it down, he believed the challenge was all about taking it one step at a time. Williams again had a chuckle and said, “Yeah. Yeah, I agree with my coach.”

Williams’ answer was direct and straight to the point. The feeling of having to line up across Myles Garrett is one no player wants to feel.

At 30 years old, Garrett is a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year winner and has been selected as a five-time All-Pro.

Last season, Williams lined up against Garrett for the second time in his career when the 49ers played Cleveland during a road game on Nov. 30.

The 49ers ended up winning the game 26-8, but that didn’t stop Garrett from playing well, as he had 1 sack and 5 total tackles.

“At the end of the day, you still gotta go out there and play,” Williams said. “Scary part is, he’s still a young player. He’s still going to get better. It’s scary after seeing what he did last year.”

Last season, Garrett won his second Defensive Player of the Year award after breaking the NFL sack record with 23 sacks.

“I’m never expecting to run into the same player, I know we see them Week 1 in Australia,” Williams said. “He’s probably going to be a little bit better than he was last time I’ve seen him.”

Russell Wilson says goodbye to NFL in emotional retirement video: ‘Thank you, football’

Russell Wilson officially announced that his football playing career is over and that he would be joining CBS Sports as an NFL analyst, ending a 14-year career that included a Super Bowl title with the Seahawks in 2014.

The quarterback made the announcement in a three-minute video posted to his social media, confirming reports several days prior that he would be hanging up his helmet and moving into the broadcast space.

“I remember the moment I fell in love with football, waking up before sunrise with my dad and brother, deep post routes and moon balls,” Wilson said in the video message. “Yeah, that’s where it all began. But somewhere along the way, our love for football turned to more than just passion. It was an obsession. You’ve been my joy, my peace, my safe place. You taught me discipline, faith, and resilience, how to keep believing no matter the circumstances.

“You’ve given me purpose and opportunity, opportunity to inspire others and create change, to continue to evolve the game, not just for me, but for the next generation of ballers. You’ve also given me the greatest gift of all, family.”

Wilson, who thanked his wife Ciara in the video, had previously said that he was mulling over a contract offer from the Jets. But ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Wilson would join CBS Sports’ NFL pregame show, “NFL Today,” alongside James Brown, Nate Burleson and Bill Cowher.

CBS Sports had been believed to be the favorite to land Wilson.

“As I enter this next chapter with CBS Sports and the ‘NFL Today,’ I’m so blessed to continue doing what I love most, being around the greatest game in the world,” Wilson said in the video.

Wilson’s NFL career spanned 14 seasons after he was drafted by the Seahawks in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He spent 10 years in Seattle and led the franchise to eight postseason appearances and the franchise’s first Super Bowl championship in 2014.

He made stops in Denver for two seasons and one season in Pittsburgh before spending his last season with the Giants.

Wilson started three games for the Giants before being benched in favor of then-rookie Jaxson Dart.

“To every coach who believed in me, you helped shape me into the man I am today,” Wilson said. “To every teammate I’ve had the privilege of sharing the locker room with, thank you for the sacrifices, the brotherhood, the memories.

“None of this is possible without you. To every fan who supported me through the highs and the lows, your belief, your energy, and your passion meant more than you’ll ever know.”

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell declines to testify before Congress over broadcast deals — here’s why

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will not testify before Congress next week about the league’s broadcast deals and its recent practice of airing games on paywalled streaming services.

Goodell declined an invitation to appear at a House Judiciary Committee hearing on June 10 “due to ongoing litigation related to the topic of the hearing,” the league’s general counsel, Ted Ullyot, wrote in a letter Wednesday to the committee chairman, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.

Jordan is one of several elected officials who’ve raised concerns about the prices fans have to pay to watch NFL games and whether the league’s streaming deals comply with the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961, which granted the league a limited antitrust exemption.

The law applies only to broadcast networks. Courts have ruled in the past that it does not apply to other media, including cable, satellite and streaming. There has been bipartisan sentiment in favor of updating the law.

This spring, the Justice Department began investigating the NFL for potential anticompetitive practices related to its broadcast deals.

In his letter to Jordan, Ullyot said 87% of the league’s games will be available over the air this season, and that every game in the competing teams’ home markets is on broadcast television. He said the increased number of games on streaming services has corresponded with a slight drop in games shown on cable.

“The NFL’s decision to license a few more games to widely adopted streaming services is simply a reflection that those platforms now offer significantly more reach than the current pay TV ecosystem and that broadcast television remains the foundation of our media distribution,” Ullyot wrote.

A spokeswoman for Jordan did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The league also sent a letter to Jordan signed by 21 members of Congress urging caution with any changes to the broadcasting law. Ullyot’s letter said the SBA helps maintain competitive balance because it supports “broad media distribution, substantial revenue sharing among the clubs, and a collectively bargained salary cap.”

“If the league were not to handle media distribution as it has since the passage of the SBA,” the letter said, “the result would be to harm NFL fans through increased cost and confusion and the undermining of the competitive balance that makes NFL games so exciting.”

Rams GM Les Snead implores Pat McAfee to ‘continue texting Aaron Donald’ after comeback tease

The Los Angeles Rams’ blockbuster trade for Myles Garrett may have done more than reshape their defense — it may have reopened the door for Aaron Donald.

Rams general manager Les Snead is openly encouraging the idea that the retired franchise icon could consider a comeback, even as he insists the decision must come on Donald’s terms.

“I think Sean [McVay] mentioned [Tuesday,] they’ve definitely communicated, texted, even talked,” Snead said on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday. “Best strategy is to let him continue working out… let him sleep on it.”

Snead even joked that McAfee should keep tabs on the former Rams star.

“Continue texting Aaron Donald,” he told McAfee with a laugh. “This is probably the time to build that daily text chain with him.”

The speculation rapidly ramped up after the Rams acquired Garrett from Cleveland in a move that immediately reshaped their pass rush.

McVay has also kept the door open, noting that Donald, who is now 35 and has not played a down of football in two and a half years, would still be capable of playing at a high level if the fire for playing football returned.

“I think for the first time, he’s maybe tempted,” Snead told Rich Eisen. “If he doesn’t think he can really, really help, he probably doesn’t want to try.”

Donald retired after the 2023 season following a decorated career that included three Defensive Player of the Year awards and a Super Bowl title.

But recent comments and workout clips along with texts suggesting the Garrett trade “got me thinking” have reignited speculation.

For what it’s worth, Donald’s wife, Erica, weighed in on the possibility of Aaron’s return, posting three words to X

“Y’all are hilarious.”

Still, Snead admitted the storyline is too compelling to ignore.

“It would be a unique story for the Rams, for sure,” he said.

For now, the Rams are letting the idea breathe, but keeping the lines of communication wide open.

49ers star Brandon Aiyuk appears to respond to arrest warrant with racing video: ‘In they feelings’

Brandon Aiyuk appears to have issued a response to news that he’s a wanted man in Northern California.

Hours after The California Post first reported Wednesday that authorities in Santa Clara submitted a warrant for his arrest over an alleged December speeding incident, Aiyuk shared some pictures, a video and a caption on his Instagram page that many of his followers believed was a blunt reply to the stunning development.

The post looked like it showed Aiyuk cruising around a race track in a Mercedes while decked out in an all-Adidas outfit.

“Mad I took off,” Aiyuk wrote in a caption on the images, “got some n–z in they feelings!”

Plenty in the post’s comment section were convinced Aiyuk dropped the carousel as a defiant retort to the public discovery of his arrest warrant.

Court records, obtained by The Post, revealed law enforcement recently received the warrant after Aiyuk posted video to his YouTube page that showed him going over 100 mph on Bay Area roadways on Dec. 20.

In the footage, Aiyuk could be seen in his Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing flying by Levi’s Stadium at 104 mph.

The 28-year-old previously said he was sorry for his actions, writing in a statement that his “car content won’t come with speeding anymore!

“My apologies.”

However, Aiyuk — who has not played for the 49ers since injuring his knee during the 2024 season — has been quiet, at least directly, about the incident since.

NFL social media accounts were silent to start Pride Month

The NFL’s official social media accounts did not post anything about Pride Month on June 1.

The league actually has not posted about Pride Month on X since 2023, when it wrote: “An important reminder – football is for everyone. Happy Pride.”

However, nearly three-quarters (23) of the league’s 32 teams posted Monday to celebrate the beginning of Pride Month.

“Pride Month is recognized throughout June, and the NFL will continue to highlight and amplify Pride-related content, community initiatives, and celebrations taking place across the league,” the NFL told The Post in a statement. “Throughout the month, we look forward to opportunities to showcase the work of the NFL, our clubs, players, partners, and community organizations supporting LGBTQ+ communities.”

The NFL does not have a policy that forces all teams to post about Pride Month, and it is usually up to the teams themselves to create content centered on the celebrations.

Last year, 12 teams did not post about Pride Month on their social accounts early in the month.

Other leagues, like the MLB, NHL and NBA, posted on their main or public relations accounts Monday to recognize Pride Month.

Pride Month was officially recognized in 1999 by then-President Bill Clinton and happens every June, bringing recognition to all LGBTQ+ individuals.

While there was no social media post as of Tuesday afternoon, the NFL has a dedicated part of its website for LGBTQ+ recognition that remains up year-round.

NFL teams have placed socially conscious messages on the field during games as part of the league’s stencil program that began in 2024.

Teams can choose from four different messages that read: “End Racism, “Stop Hate,” “Choose Love,” and “Inspire Change.”

The New York Giants were among those who posted Monday, with their X post reading: “Happy Pride Month.”

The Jets, though, did not, and their last Pride Month post was on Instagram in 2024.

They do have a Pride Month merchandise collection.

Giants’ Tyrone Tracy, girlfriend announce she is pregnant with ‘two little surprises’

Congratulations are in order for Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. and fiancée Zoe Rollon, times two.

The pair announced they are expecting twins in a joint Instagram post on Tuesday.

“Two little surprises. One big reveal 🍼♥️,” they wrote, including photos from their maternity shoot by Diana Robles, a New Jersey based photographer. “Tracy Twins coming this Fall!!”

Tracy and Rollon, who got engaged in January, posed together holding a newspaper entitled, “The Newborn Times” with a sonogram image.

“I’m blessed and highly favored,” Tracy added in an Instagram Story post. “Thank you God.”

Taking to her Instagram Story, Rollon shared a video of Tracy smiling and kissing a sonogram image.

“Our little babies, we are so in love with yall already,” she wrote with a red heart emoji.

The pair have been together since September 2023.

Tracy, a fifth-round pick by the Giants in the 2024 NFL Draft, is coming off a solid 2025 season, in which he recorded 1,028 yards from scrimmage.

He became only the third player in franchise history to reach 1,000-plus scrimmage yards in each of his first two seasons, joining Odell Beckham Jr. and Saquon Barkley.

Tracy began the year as Big Blue’s starting running back, and Cam Skattebo took over the role when Tracy sustained a shoulder injury in Week 3.

Tracy resumed the top spot when Skattebo went down with a season-ending ankle injury in Week 8.

The Giants signed three veteran wide receivers, Odell Beckham Jr., JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Braxton Berrios, on Monday.
