Full disclosure: if I hadn’t had class scheduled yesterday, and people committed to coming, there IS NO WAY I would have exercised. I was tired, hungry, had other commitments and deadlines looming, and just didn’t feel like it.
Not only did I feel great after getting my heart rate up, I felt accomplished knowing I had made progress toward my fitness goals. Yesterday was HIIT class, and I honestly had a surge of emotion feeling how much my knee has improved since surgery, and how much harder these simple exercises were for me just a few months ago.
As a Behavior Change Specialist, and with my 10 years of experience as a trainer, I know there are lots of different motivating factors and barriers to exercise consistency. THE NUMBER ONE FACTOR IN IMPROVING WORKOUT ADHERENCE IS HAVING SOMEONE TO TRAIN WITH.
That’s why I decided to create these group virtual classes - so that I actually do my core workouts, foam rolling, high intensity interval training and weight lifting every week.
Just like everyone else, if I don’t have a workout scheduled, and people to be accountable to there, I don’t get it done.
