Growing up, I built bikes with my friends. With all the chaos around us, this gave all of us an escape— and my first taste of independence.
As a kid in Los Angeles in the early 1990s, gang violence was a far greater concern than traffic violence. Since then, homicides have dropped 77% — but traffic deaths have increased.
That’s why when we took office, we committed to prioritizing lives over convenience. We’ve delivered dozens of mobility upgrades across the district, including CD13’s first protected bike lanes — 2.1 miles on Hollywood Boulevard. Since installation, traffic violence has declined and bus ridership along the corridor has surged.
This is part of a bigger vision: making it safer and easier to get around our city. With Sunset For All entering public outreach, we’re building toward a connected bike network from Downtown to West Hollywood and beyond.
We’re advancing a community-led vision that works for everyone — no matter how they get around. Thank you to Streets For All for helping to lead this movement to make our streets safer for everyone.
