Saturday August 22 - Race #5
Race day is always filled with emotions. Highs, lows, and everything in between. Saturday was no exception.
Mother Nature played nice and we had a beautiful sunny (AND DRY!) day at the track! The boys were excited and eager to back out there, as the Weekend Series had been on break since early July.
BLAKE #5 Kart - 11 Kid Karts
Recently, Kart Chief Dad made a few "comfort" adjustments to Blake's kart and went out there that a blaze of fire! Timing and scoring was not live right away but when Blake came off the track after 1st practice he was BOUNCING with excitement at how he was "rippin it out there!". He continued to show that speed in 2nd practice, earning himself a 6th place starting spot in heat race #1. He was the definition of consistent and finished heat 1 in 6th. In heat #2 he also started 6th, but dropped to 8th early on. He kept the medal to the metal and was able to pass 2 karts to finish 6th.
In the feature he lined up, you guessed it, 6th! On the way out onto the track, a kart in front of him spun and Blake crashed into him. Unfortunately that resulted in a bent tie rod and ended his day. 😔 Blake was really bummed but he was not hurt and he is just more determined to get back out there and show everyone what he's got!
CHASE #19 Kart - 13 Cadet Karts
Chase continues to find speed and work on his racing line. Heat #1 is set by random draw so Chase started 7th. At the drop of the green he made quick work of getting into 6th place but fell back to 9th by the end. Heat #2 is reverse of the random draw so Chase started 7th. Again, at the drop of the green he was off! He passed three karts on lap #1 to find himself in 4th! By the end of the 5 laps, though, he found himself right back where had started in 7th.
The feature race had Chase lined up 9th, but he was ready and determined to pass some karts and stay there! This race was so much fun to watch. Chase and his friend Easton, EMH Motorsports, were out there battling back and forth - just like old times! Chase (FINALLY) took some of Dad's coaching to heart and was working on his drafting. This helped him pass karts and maintain some of that track position to bring it home in, you guessed it, lucky number 7!
Overall, Mom and Dad are unbelievably proud of the improvements the boys have shown and of their desire to continue to get better. Even with the early exit for Blake we consider Race #5 a success! It was a great day at the track. 😎
