This image gives a good idea of what a Twitter account set up should start with. Obviously skip the NCSA nonsense. Link your FieldLevel or YouTube. Banner photo can be some team photo or something.
Key things are
1. keep it athletic/academic specific.
2. include summer team if you have it
3. Put academic info on there...can add more than GPA if this is an area where your athlete shines. Test scores. # of AP classes
4. Highlight metrics that are position specific. So exit velocity for hitters, 60 time (if it's good and position relevant). Position specific throwing velo. Pop time for catchers. Coaches don't really care about your in season stats so no need to put those up there. Can include any athletic awards like if your player makes all county or something.
5. Start following accounts of teams and coaches that are of interest. Some will follow back. Others don't.
6. Make sure your DMs are open so coaches can communicate.
7. Post regularly. Once every 1-2 weeks in season. Once every 3-4 out of season with some film updates.
Safety issues: I wouldn't include a phone number or a personal email unless it's one that is specifically set up for recruiting. Parents may want to check the DMs and also the followers on the accounts and clean those up periodically. Make sure your player is only using this for sports. Remind them that folks can see what they like as well so pay attention to what types of posts they like, retweet.
