One of my favorite things to do with my son is take our Onewheels out!

This time we ended up at Veterans Park in Lexington. There are lots of trails, both on and off path, and a beautiful area where you can get close to the water and even put your feet in if you're willing.

We rode. We explored. We got some fresh air and spent time together.

That's about as good as it gets! ❤️

Most of us know the body is mostly water, but how often do you think about all the little baby cells in your body potentially screaming for water the second you wake up?

After hours without drinking anything, starting the morning with water helps replace some of what was lost overnight and gets the day off to a better start.

Happier cells. Happier body.

The best solution I've found?

Fill a huge cup before bed and leave it on the nightstand.

Morning-you doesn't even have to think about it.

Yoga teaches us mobility in unison with breath.

But mobility isn’t just about going deeper into poses. Sometimes it’s about movement and getting the whole body to work together.

Do you work on your mobility? And if so, why?

Did you know? Classical yoga texts describe special powers called siddhis, said to arise through intense concentration, meditation and deep absorption.

Apparently mobility wasn’t the only thing the ancient yogis were working on. 😂

I've been thinking about walls lately. Specifically the walls that I learned to build around myself.

Most of them came from pain or shame. And at some point I needed them to help me, to protect me, and they gave me space, and they kept unpleasant things out when I didn't know what else to do.

But walls, they work both ways. They keep out the good stuff too.

I don't think every wall needs to come down.

Maybe we just need to remember there's a gate.

One size doesn’t fit all.

We’re accustomed to accepting that with clothes. Nobody walks into a store believing every shoe, shirt or pair of pants should fit every person exactly the same way.

So why do we expect wellness to work that way?

One person thrives on a routine that makes somebody else miserable. One person feels fantastic after a particular meal while another feels sluggish. Some people naturally run warm. Others reach for a sweater when everybody else is comfortable. Some crave constant movement and novelty. Others function better with consistency and grounding.

This is where the Ayurvedic concept of doshas gets interesting.

Vata, Pitta and Kapha give us a framework for recognizing that our bodies, minds and tendencies aren’t identical. Neither are the things that bring us back toward balance.

And why does that matter?

Because understanding your patterns gives you a vocabulary for asking better questions:

What tends to throw me off?

What brings me back toward balance?

What am I doing simply because somebody told me it’s “healthy,” even though it doesn’t seem to work well for me?

Wellness gets a lot more interesting when we stop asking what works for everybody and start paying attention to what actually works for us.

All of us are interested in longevity.

We want to stay youthful. Strong. Flexible. Mobile. We want to feel good for as many years as we’re lucky enough to be here.

But how often do we stop and ask ourselves a much simpler question:

Is this actually healthy for me?

And I don’t just mean what’s on your plate.

It could be the relationship you’re in.
The people you surround yourself with.
The things you watch and listen to.
The way you spend your time.
The thoughts you repeat to yourself every day.
The habits you’ve picked up without ever deciding whether you actually wanted them.

We can spend a lot of energy trying to add healthy things to our lives while never questioning the things that are quietly taking something away.

That’s one of the reasons Ayurveda has had such an influence on the way I think about wellness. Health isn’t only about fixing something when it goes wrong. It’s about becoming more aware of what strengthens you, what depletes you, and how the life you’re building actually feels to live in.

Maybe longevity isn’t just about adding years to your life.

Maybe it’s also about making sure you’re actually living them.

Apparently even the alien is confused about what we’re doing. 👽😂

The way my body feels changed the way I think about food.

In Ayurveda, we learn to listen. We learn to listen by paying attention to how we feel.

It’s easy to get caught up in calories, protein, carbs, supplements and everything we’re told we’re supposed to eat.

Ayurveda adds another question: How does the food actually make you feel?

Do you feel energized afterward? Heavy? Satisfied? Sluggish? How is your digestion? Does the same meal feel different depending on the season or what your body has been doing?

Oh, by the way… did you know?
The American Heart Association recommends limiting added sugar because excess intake can contribute to cardiovascular risk. Their suggested daily limit is no more than 36 grams (9 teaspoons) for men and 25 grams (6 teaspoons) for women.

Modern recommendation. Ancient practice. Maybe they’re not always so far apart.

Ayurveda teaches us to pay attention to those signals instead of assuming there is one perfect diet for everyone.

That doesn’t mean nutrition doesn’t matter. It means nutrition is only part of the conversation.

Eat good food. Pay attention. Learn your body. Adjust as you go.

That’s Ayurveda in everyday life.

For years, yoga has been teaching me how the body remembers.

Fear, stress, and the things we’ve lived through can leave the body scarred and hardened, just like earth.

In time, yoga softens the soil.

Breath by breath, movement by movement, we begin making space for the parts of ourselves that have been scared or hiding.

And slowly, through healing, opening up, and connecting more deeply to ourselves, the flowers begin to grow.

During some seasons, the flowers barely break the surface. In others, they bloom everywhere.

For me, that’s practicing yoga. Allowing my flowers to grow.

Not becoming someone new, but becoming the brightest, sexiest, wisest, and most connected flower I was meant to be. Bloom baby bloom ✨
