After a long weekend and a lot of rain, 1909 Mountain Smoke BBQ really enjoyed the big one. The KCBS World Invitational. For 3 High school students ( the only high school team), getting to compete with the best in the world will be something they will remember for the rest of their lives. Even if we didn't get a call, I am truly blessed to be the one who gets to teach and coach them. We started the weekend with the World rib finals on Friday night and finished in 32nd place out of 79 teams. Saturday, we competed in the Youth Q 10-16 age group, and all 3 boys cooking a New York strip steak ended the day with 3rd, 5th, and 7th places. Sunday was the Backyard World Finals, where we cooked chicken and ribs. We ended with an 11th place ribs, chicken was such a disaster that we got 38th place, and walking away with a 26th place overall. To say I am proud is beyond words. Only competing in 2 events due to school calendars and distance, it says so much for how well these students want to learn. We had the same total scores for both rib cooks (174.2744), and to me, for the boys, that is consistency. Thank you to Adam Taunya Dawkins with Bad Rooster BBQ for your support. Thanks to Heath Riles BBQ for supporting high school BBQ.
