Eudora stormed back from 2-score deficit at halftime to earn a 22-19 win over Topeka Hayden. After an early 7-0 lead thanks to a 2-yard rushing touchdown by Grayson Moody, the Cardinals allowed Hayden to score 19 unanswered points, including a 74-yard fumble return touchdown that turned a strong Eudora drive into a gut punch heading into halftime.

But Eudora responded with a scoring drive to open the 3rd quarter, capped off by a 3-yard rushing touchdown from Keelyn Duncan. The Cardinals would not be able to retake the lead until midway through the 4th quarter. Moody punched in another score from 2 yards out, followed by Duncan running in a 2-point conversion to give Eudora a 22-19 lead. Duncan also helped set up the touchdown by hurdling a Hayden defender on the previous play, taking off on 7-yard line and landing on the 2-yard line.

Hayden quickly responded with a trip into scoring territory. But after a false start put them in a 4th-and-10 situation, Eudora's Preston White and Lyrik Langley were able to knock the ball away from the hands of a Hayden receiver at the goal line.

Eudora tried to catch Hayden by surprise when the Cardinals opted to throw the ball deep on 2nd down. But Hayden’s defense was prepared, picking the ball off to give the Wildcats another chance with only a few minutes remaining. Hayden even had another scoring opportunity with another shot to the end zone, only for the ball to go past the outstretched hands of a wide-open receiver.

But with one last chance on 4th-and-1, Eudora prevented another first-down completion to take over and downs. The Cardinals kneeled down to run out the clock and seal the victory.

Baldwin rolled to a 54-6 victory over Hiawatha. In head coach Jeff Melcher's 2nd year at the helm, the Bulldogs have once again opened up the season with a blowout victory. Before this 2-year stretch, the program had not won a season opener since winning 2 straight in 2017 and 2018 under then-coach Doug Kerr.

Bryis Alford had two rushing touchdowns, as well as a long bomb to Taylor Wilson for a passing touchdown. Kreyton Frost had a couple rushing touchdowns on the goal line while Tucker Flory had a 52-yard rushing touchdown, which came directly after a potential punt return touchdown by Wrigley Hamrick was nullified by penalty. Tyce Engemann got the Bulldogs started fast with an 84-yard touchdown on the opening kickoff. Jake Broers converted 4 extra-point attempts. Kage Blair rounded out the scoring, hauling in a touchdown pass from Max Delaney as the backups took over in the final quarter. Blair also converted the 2-point conversion.

Baldwin held its opponent scoreless until Hiawatha got on the board with a touchdown on the team's final possession of the game.

Lawrence High controlled the action for most of the 1st half, but Oscar Paden's pair of goals were matched by a pair of penalty kick goals for the Ravens. Olathe Northwest put constant pressure on the Lions defense for most of the 2nd half, before finally slipping a go-ahead goal into the net with a few minutes left in the game, allowing them to steal a 3-2 victory.

Lawrence High moves to 1-1-0 on the year.

Eudora’s boys team earned a 5th-place finish in Class 4A, while the Cardinals also took 7th on the girls side.

The Eudora boys 4x100-meter relay won a 4A state title as Hayden Marsh, Preston White, Lyrik Langley and Cameren Tice ran a 42.55 to hold off runner-up Andale at 42.64. The Cardinals had also earned the top time in prelims, that time 0.20 seconds ahead of same upset-minded quartet.

Tice also delivered a state runner-up finish in the 200 meter dash and a 3rd-place finish in the 100 meter.

Joining Tice as state runners-up, Brady Von Holten took 2nd in the boys discus while Brenika Rader did the same in the girls high jump.

Faith Lorenzo, Brynn Deterding, Addison Lewis and Izzy Brunkow delivered the team a 3rd-place finish in the girls 4x400 relay. Deterding took 3rd in the 300-meter hurdles while Brunkow achieved the same in the pole vault. Brunkow also anchored the girls 4x100 relay as Bailey Hammerschmidt, Lewis and Avery Warren joined her to finish 5th in that race.

Cage Crabill earned a 4th-place finish in the boys shot put.

George Hagan and Grayson Masterson both earned 5th-place medals, Hagan in the boys triple jump and Masterson in the boys 3200 meter. Masterson added to his collection with a 7th-place finish in the 1600 meter.

Rounding out Eudora’s medals haul, Brock Long took to the podium for the boys discus while Colton Bowser did so in the boys pole vault. Both Long and Bowser placed 5th in their respective events.
