CHANGE THE ANGLE. CHANGE THE FORCE VECTOR.

Small variations in angle can change the direction in which force is received, redirected, and expressed through contact.

In this continuation of the previous drill, the basic movement relationship develops through different angles. Rather than treating the hand positions as fixed shapes, the training explores how changes in angle reorganize the force vector while contact with the wooden dummy is maintained.

This is one reason continuous contact is so important: it allows the practitioner to feel how angle, pressure, direction, and body organization change throughout the transition.

The position is only a moment. The transition reveals the force.

SYNCHRONIZED. NOT SYMMETRICAL.

Two-arm wooden dummy training introduces a different level of coordination.

In this Huen Sao drill, both arms are working simultaneously, but they are not simply mirroring each other. Each arm moves through a different phase of the transition while remaining coordinated with the other.

An equally important part of the exercise is maintaining contact with the dummy arms throughout the transition. The goal is not simply to arrive at the next hand position—the transition itself is part of the training.

Synchronization does not mean symmetry. It means organizing different movements into one coordinated action while maintaining tactile connection.

I now offer live Wing Chun wooden dummy group lessons via Zoom, where we can work through these principles step by step.

Same Movement. Different Forces.

In this two-arm wooden dummy drill, the external movement may look almost identical, but the force being expressed through the contact is changing.

Both arms can express a forward force vector. Both can reorganize toward a backward vector. Then the two arms can work simultaneously in different directions—for example, Jut Sao expressing forward while Tan Sao expresses backward.

The purpose is not simply to reproduce the visible shape of Jut Sao or Tan Sao. The training develops the ability to organize and change force through each point of contact while maintaining continuous connection with the wooden dummy.

As two-arm training develops, each arm learns to express its own direction of force while remaining coordinated with the body, footwork, and the other arm.

The movement you see is only part of the training. The direction of force is what gives the movement its function.

The force hasn’t changed. Only the shape of the palm has.

In this drill, the transition expresses the same continuous force as the previous exercise. The difference is in how that force is organized through the hand.

Wooden dummy training is not about collecting techniques. It is about learning to preserve continuity while the body reorganizes into different structures. The palm changes, but the connection, direction, and coordination remain continuous.

Over time, these transitions develop a unique feeling of whole-body coordination that cannot be understood by looking at a single movement in isolation.

Expressing Two Forces

In this two-arm wooden dummy drill, the rolling hands transition develops into Tan Sao on one side and Fok Sao on the other.

The purpose is not simply to change hand positions. It is to develop continuity of force through continuous reorganization under contact.

Think of a mountain stream. The water never stops flowing. As the terrain changes, its direction changes, its pressure changes, but the flow itself remains continuous.

The same principle applies here.

Even at the moment that appears to pause during rotation, the force has not stopped. Internally, the body, wrists, and forearms are reorganizing so that the force can continue in a new direction without interruption.

The goal is to eliminate “dead points” between movements and cultivate the ability to express force continuously through changing structure and contact.

The Two-Arm Wooden Dummy Training Series begins.

Everything in this series is built on the foundation developed through the One-Arm Training. The goal is not simply to add a second hand, but to coordinate both arms while maintaining continuous contact, dynamic structure, and smooth transitions.

As the complexity increases, the same principles remain:
• Wrist control
• Continuous transitions
• Coordination from the floor to the hands
• Sensitivity to pressure and changing angles
• Adaptability under contact

The two-arm series develops the ability to organize both sides of the body as one coordinated system, preparing the practitioner for the complete Mook Yan Jong form.

The culmination of the One-Arm Training Series.

Every drill in this series develops a specific quality. Together, they become continuous movement.

This progression is not about memorizing isolated techniques. It develops coordination, wrist control, transitions, tactile responsiveness, dexterity, and the ability to transfer force through changing angles while maintaining continuous contact.

The wooden dummy is not simply a collection of techniques. It is a training instrument that refines the qualities needed for adaptable movement under contact.

This video shows how those individual drills connect into a continuous method.

Where Wooden Dummy Skill Begins

Wooden dummy training does not begin with memorizing long sequences.

It begins with understanding contact.

Single-arm training isolates the foundation — allowing you to develop wrist control, angle awareness, body connection, and the ability to maintain structure while movement is constantly changing.

Before complex combinations, the body must learn how to feel:
• where pressure travels
• how angles transform
• how the hand, wrist, elbow, and body work together

The wooden dummy is not only a tool for practicing movements — it is an instrument that teaches coordination through contact.

Small details create the foundation for greater skill.

Small Transitions. Greater Versatility.

The transition between Tan Sao and Wu Sao takes place within a very small space between the two arms.

As this transition becomes smaller and more refined, these two movements become increasingly versatile. The goal is not to move more—it is to move with greater continuity, precision, and perception through touch.

Wooden dummy training develops these qualities through continuous contact, allowing transitions to become natural, adaptable, and efficient.
