Hosting a Pool Party?
Establish some basic pool safety rules! And Hire a Certified Lifeguard!

When hosting a pool party, establish some basic pool safety rules and inform your guests when they arrive.

Depending on the number of attendees, you should consider hiring a lifeguard or two to oversee pool activities and enforce the pool safety rules. The recommended ratio is 1 lifeguard for every 15-20 swimmers.
However, there are variables to consider:
• The number of children under the age of ten
• The number of teens
• Swimming ability of the guests
• Whether alcohol is being served
• Design of the pool area: is there clear visibility of all sections of the pool, the overall depth, are there diving boards and/or slides?

Additionally, for all children aged 5 and under and those youngsters who cannot swim, homeowners should require a 1-1 ratio with the child’s parent or guardian (18 or older) to be in the water and within arm’s reach of the child at all times.

There are numerous organizations and businesses that provide highly-trained, certified lifeguards for private events. Search your local online listings, get referrals and check their online reviews. The lifeguard will act as the official “Water Watcher!”

1. Group outing? Assess everyone’s swimming ability prior to entering the water!

2. Designate an ADULT Water Watcher * Vigilante del agua

3. When visiting a home with a pool! Ask what safety devices are in place to prevent kids from accessing the pool Unsupervised!

4. Apply the “within arm’s reach” guide when kids are around any body of water!

5. Protect against UV rays with a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

6. Be mindful of pets around water, not all animals are natural swimmers.
