∙ January 31, 2015 we decided to make some more hits at No Problem Raceway during there second NHRA Bracket series race to collect more data on the new set up. We got to run with the cars we usually run with at the KOC races. We managed keep going rounds till we were back in the finals again. We fell short in the finals, we were fighting a strong head wind and the car slowed way down. Now we fini
sh up getting ready for first KOC race in Gulfport that is scheduled for February 21-22,2015. January 17, 2015 we decided to do some test and tuning at No Problem Raceway during the NHRA Bracket series race. We had the weight of the car correct and was running in the low 12’s. We went several rounds of elimination and found ourselves back in the Final round. We dialed the car in at 12.02, the car broke out at a 12.01. So we runner up. Great experience and we were able to collect data from these passes.
∙ December 7, 2014 KOC Race Event 6 day #2 we are ready for first time trial and car will not start. We had a stuck float in the carb. We made a time trial then first round we lost. We decided to sit out the rest of the race because of the issues we were having. The Points were totaled up for the season and we managed to pull off the Championship!!!
∙ Last Event of the 2014 season. December 6, 2014 KOC Race Event 6 day #1 we were having problems with the car being consistent. We went rounds and made it to the finals and fell short with a runner up. Alissa got to meet and hang out with 2014 NHRA Pro Stock World Champion Erica Enders. We attended a Party in the Pit’s at the Nye Motorsports Trailer. We had a blast.
∙ November 9,2014 KOC Race Event 5 day #2 we went rounds and found ourselves in the finals again. We fell short in the finals with a break out. So Alissa received another runner up trophy. With these wins this weekend we have taken over the points lead. Next race will be on December 6-7. With a good weekend we should be able to hold on to the lead in points and hopefully win the championship.
∙ November 8,2014 KOC Race Event 5 day #1 with new set up we made it to the finals and won. Alissa is the first winner of the 5 foot trophy nationals in the 6-7 year old class.
∙ We were not able to make the race on October 4th due to a bad week at school.
∙ KOC Race was Rained out so We are going to Run at the IHRA (The Night of Fire) Race on October 4, 2014.
∙ Now we are making last minute preparations for KOC Race Event 4, which is scheduled for September 27-28.
∙ August 8, 2014 Alissa got to meet and spent some time with 3 time Pro Stock Bike Champion Angelle Sampey. That was a real exciting day, Angelle was great to us.
∙ Since the Event 3 race we have put a LO206 Engine with a shock-wave clutch on the car. We made several test hits trying to get a stubborn stumble out of it. Then we here the announcement that NHRA will now offer a youth racing program. NHRA will have sanctioned races that will now include a 6-7 year old class. This class will be a 13.90 bracket at 1/8 mile. So we contacted No Problem Raceway and attended a friday test and tune and was able to make the passes necessary to get her NHRA competition license.
∙ June 8, 2014 KOC Race Event 3 day #2 we had better luck. We made it to the finals and won. The long hours and headache paid off for us. Alissa was so excited to be back in the Winners Circle again.
∙ June 7, 2014 KOC Race Event 3 day #1 we managed to go a couple of rounds and lost in the semi finals. We were fighting clutch issues with back up motor.
∙ June 6,2014 KOC Race Event 3 we decided lets make the Friday night test and tune to get the car figured out for the race. Pass #1 car runs good so let’s make another pass and see how consistent the car is. Pass #2 car runs great till it gets to the big end. The car starts making a crazy sound and shuts off on the track. We go down to pick her up and see what happened. We asked Alissa what happened and she said the Car popped and shook bad. We pulled car back to trailer to try to figure out what happened. Well the piston came apart in her motor. So we drove to our shop (hour and a half away) to get another motor. We worked till about 2 am when we were able to get the back up motor ready to run.
∙ March 23, 2014 KOC Race Event 2 day #2 we find ourselves going rounds again. Next thing, we are in the finals again. This time we did not as good of luck but we got runner up. At this point we are tied with another driver for the Points championship.
∙ March 22,2014 KOC Race Event 2 day #1 We attended our first race at Gulfport Dragway. We had a blast that day. We were trying to figure out what all we were supposed to do and try not to mess up. We went a couple of rounds and advanced to the next. Before we new it we were lining up for the Final round. At this point we were in disbelief. The two cars lined up and raced, when we saw we had the win light we could not believe this first day of racing we were having. Alissa was so excited when we picked her up on the return road. So next we took a ride to the tower to get her trophy and her big check. We pulled the car over to the Winners Circle to take pictures. The event promoter came up to Alissa and told her congratulations and that she was the first ever winner of a 6-7 year old sanctioned race event.
∙ January 24th 2014 we were notified from Aaron from Knights Racing that the King of the Coast Racing Series made an announcement that starting at there Event 2 they will be running a 6-7 year old class at Gulfport Dragway. This class is a 7.90 bracket at 330'. So right away we were in contact with Knights Racing Team for advice and help getting the car set up. They were a big help. With Event 2 coming up we decided to strip the car down and go through the whole thing. We paint stripped the chassis, replaced brake lines, front wheels, seat belts, windshield, and painted chassis to get it cleaned up and pass tech at the track. We put alcohol motor back on and started making some test and tune hits with it. In 2013 Alissa Ortego was already involved in tractor pulling and the discussion took place about getting into Drag Racing. So we bought a Jr. Dragster from a family in Alabama. We took alcohol motor off of it and put a stock motor on it for Alissa to get some seat time and not put unnecessary run time on her good motor. We made some 60' test hits in the street and in parking lots. We had plenty of time cause Alissa was only six and at the time you had to be eight to race. So we started going to local Jr. dragster races to watch and try to learn a little while we were there. We met some great families by going to the track.
