This one took our Frenchie nicely…

One of our absolute favorite patterns here at Perfect Hatch!

A very simple variation of the Pheasant Tail that includes a hot spot (a brightly colored addition – usually fluorescent or bright). This hot spot can trigger a strike even when trout aren’t actively feeding.

This fly is a go-to pattern when other flies aren’t working in tougher conditions…

Top colors we recommend are pink, chartreuse, or orange in either a size 16 and 18 (good to have both of these sizes in your fly box).

May you find that perfect spot this weekend…

For the new fly anglers out there, make sure you add a few Wooly Bu**ers to your fly box — the best colors are black, olive, or white for this pattern.

The good old Wooly Bu**er imitates minnows, sculpin, leeches, baitfish, tadpoles, and crayfish. Also, a great attractor pattern with a little bit of flash too.

There is so much versatility with this particular pattern as you can:

▪️Swing it — cast your line slightly down stream and across the current (try not to mend your line) — let the current do most of the work by taking your fly line and ultimately pulling the wooly bu**er across — once the ‘swing’ is complete, let it hang there for a bit because often trout follow and you may get a trout to strike

▪️Strip it — cast it down stream, let it sink, then strip the fly line in by hand by varying long pulls and short pulls to imitate a fleeing baitfish

▪️Dead drift it (like you would normally with a smaller nymph)

Have a great Sunday everyone!
