The Lancaster football team typically plays for a Section VI championship — winning six Class AA titles in nine finals appearances from 2016 to 2024 — but the streak ended last year with a loss to Bennett in the Class AA semifinals.

Legends coach Eric Rupp said not getting a chance to play for a sectional title is something that has motivated the coaches and players all offseason.

“It’s the first time in a decade that we did not make it to the Class AA championship, so it’s certainly a motivating factor,” Rupp said. “We have had a good offseason and hope to get back there this year. A lot of our guys play multiple sports, whether it is in the winter or spring, but as soon as the calendar turned to June, we were working out three to four days a week. We have 50 guys on our roster and had over 40 at every single workout this summer.”
