Join us tonight to Celebrate Hillsboro's 200th Birthday with a NIGHT RIDE! We have glow sticks and a limited number of bike lights. It's going to be a great time!

Meet up 7:30pm @ Central Park

04/16/2023

We are still planning to be on the trails tomorrow for our planned community trail work day. There will probably be plenty of sticks and branches to pick up, and the damp soil will make for easy removal of weeds and stumps.

Join us Noon - 2:00. Parking in the back parking lot of the campground at the head of the trail.

See you there!

Hey all! We have been quiet on here for a minute, but there has been so much work happening on the trails! They aren’t open to ride yet, but we are getting closer all the time.

We can always use extra hands on work days. If you are interested in getting on a text list for work days private message us your cell.

Here are some of the volunteers that turned out to help on the bike trails for today’s work day. We will be out here all day, and can always use more hands. Drive down the forest of Terror road behind Sherwood Forrest Campground and keep left. There is plenty of space to park along the road.

**4/10 UPDATE** the forest of terror road is very muddy today. Vehicles may drive back to the trail head an park along the road. Keep left as you enter the forest of terror road and you will run right into us.

It has been a long drab winter, and we have been quiet on this page, but lots of work has been happening on the development of the Oo-De-Lally Bike trail system! We have about 1/4 of a mile left until the main loop will be complete!

We can't wait to show you all the work we have done, and a Sunny and 65 Sunday will be the perfect day to check it out and lend a hand in finishing up the loop!

This Sunday, April 10, we are hosting a Volunteer Trail Work Day. Times are set from 10:00am - 5:00pm with a lunch break in the early afternoon, but feel free to come and go as you please. Bring a shovel, rake, or cutting tools and hit the trail with us. We will be bench cutting, removing small trees, clearing leaves from the trail, and with enough volunteers we might see the completion of the loop.

Volunteers should park in the lot nearest the Forest of Terror entrance, with overflow parking at the Main bathrooms at the head of the campground. Trail access will require some walking. Follow the Forest of Terror road until you reach the pirate ship and the trail head will be clearly marked. Doesn't a nice walk through a "haunted" forest sound delightful?

We ask that volunteers be respectful of the campgrounds by following posted speed limits, only parking in designated areas, and sticking to the main paths while traveling through.

If you have any questions or need day-of assistance in locating the trails you can call Kenny @ 217-556-2334 or Isaac @ 217-313-8453

There is no better representation of what our group is working for than this picture right here...

These boys have heard things like "wow, you really have your hands full." Or "I don't know how you keep up" muttered about them to the parents charged with wrangling them more times than they (or we) can count. They are sometimes loud, and messy, and literally climbing the walls, but let me tell you... they are experts in FUN!

These wild boys rode 4 miles in the wind, rain, and dark and they loved every second of it. We cannot give them mountains to climb or waves to surf, but we can give them trails to ride, ramps to jump, and a positive outlet for all of that energy. We cannot wait to see these boys shredding the trails one day.

The Oo-De-lally trail system is beginning to take a preliminary shape, but we have some big obstacles that will stand in our way before they can become a reality. The biggest of which are a minimum of three bridges crossing the creek that winds through the property.

This community trail project will take the efforts of the whole community. Here are some ways you can help:

Make a monetary donation to the Bike Trials at imaginehillsboro.com/shop. Click the "One time donation" button and write Bike Trails in the memo, or mail to Imagine Hillsboro PO Box 234, Hillsboro, Illinois. Donations are 5013c tax deductible.

Donate new or used (working condition) items from this list: shovels, rakes, pickaxes, adze, machetes, wheelbarrow, chainsaw, bags of concrete, small shed.

The first community bike ride was a little wet and a whole lot of fun!

Thank you to everyone who came out to ride in the rain with us, and those who supported us from the comfort of their own couch. This community is the very best, and we cannot wait to ride with you again!

*UPDATE* The ride will go on as planned. Dress for wet weather.
