Justin's Trivia Tuesday❓

Question: What do commentators call the situation when a player receives the ball behind the last defender at the wrong time?
Answer: offside

Commentators call this being caught offside or flagged for offside. This happens when a player strays past the second-to-last defender (typically the last outfield defender) at the exact moment the ball is passed to them by a teammate. You will commonly hear "the offside trap" being used and that is when the defending team aligns their players in a manner that inherently catches the attacking team offside.

The offside rule is the most commonly misunderstood rule in the sport of soccer. It seems at times that everyone has a different understanding of what the rule means, what constitutes on and offside, when a player is or isn't offside...it's a mess. All I have to say is that you do NOT want to fall into that offside trap. The general rule of thumb us to watch your placement on the field and just stay onside.

Keep yourself out of the "offside trap" of sports management and stay on the official's good side with PeakMVP. PeakMVP keeps you in the game so you don't get caught behind the defense. Download PeakMVP and get started! Link in bio 🔗

Justin's Trivia Tuesday❓

Question: What do officials call the restart when the ball crosses the goal line off a defender without a goal?
Answer: a corner kick

Officials call this restart a corner kick. According to International Football Association Board (IFAB) Law 17, a corner kick is awarded to the attacking team when the entire ball crosses the goal line (on the ground or in the air) after last being touched by a defender, provided a goal was not scored.

There are two things to highlight here. Corner kicks are a restart. They give the attacking team a chance to get set, catch a breath and create an opportunity...Opportunity is conveniently the second thing here. Players love corner kicks (or set pieces) because they are an organized opportunity to create success in the form of a goal.

You know what sounds a lot like a corner kick??? PeakMVP! PeakMVP is a chance for coaches, managers and parents to reset from the old ways of coaching and managing. PeakMVP is also filled with great opportunities for those who use it!

Justin's Trivia Tuesday❓

Question: In soccer, what body part can't touch the ball?
Answer: Hands (unless you are the goalie of course)

In soccer, field players cannot intentionally touch the ball with their hands or arms (from the shoulder down). Using any part of the arm below the armpit is considered a foul. Goalkeepers are the only players allowed to use their hands, but only within their own penalty area.

GOOD NEWS! Thankfully this rule only applies to field players, not ALL people 🙃 Field players can't use their hands, but coaches, parents and managers...you all can. Whether you are updating availability, posting photos to the feed or checking the status of the game, use of your hands is a must. You all use your hands for the game management side of things so your players don't have to use them on the field...unless your player is a goalie of course in which you use your hands so they CAN use their hands...

Check out PeakMVP and see what all the hype is about. With summer almost upon us, it's time to get prepared. Get ahead of the game with PeakMVP! Link in bio 🔗

Question: What is the average Premier League season schedule?
Answer: Each team plays 38 games over the course of the campaign

A standard Premier League season runs from August to May, featuring 20 teams playing 380 total matches. Each team plays 38 games (19 home and 19 away). Youth sports is the key to success for many young athletes. ⚽️

Hey guys! It's your humble digital media manager Justin and I wanted to give a small anecdote about the importance and value of youth sports. I started out in church league soccer in 2009, eventually made it club and retired in 2022 to run collegiate cross country and track. Here's the thing...I wouldn't be who I am without soccer and in fact...soccer landed me a job with STL CITY SC, a major MLS team, where I will get to interact with the very communities I grew up in. Youth sports open up pathways you may never have even believed it could.

But...as a coaches son, I can also tell you that the journey wasn't easy. Trust me, I have been around the bend with sports management apps and PeakMVP is the only one that truly does it all. Peak is made by coaches for coaches and as an an athlete, I can tell you that it is FOR athletes as well.

Listen...I wouldn't lie to you...give PeakMVP a try. I promise your life will be changed.

Justin's Trivia Tuesday❓

Question: What is the name of the trophy awarded to the team with the best regular-season record in MLS?
Answer: Supporter's Shield

The trophy awarded to the MLS team with the best regular-season record is the Supporters' Shield. It has been awarded annually since 1996 to the team that finishes with the highest number of points in the league table, representing consistency over the entire season. The award was created by fans to recognize the best team, often considered the true league champion due to the long season format.

You may be wondering, how is this relevant to PeakMVP. Well...in youth sports, the "supporter's shield" award goes to YOU.
