MOTIVATION 🤙🏿
There are trainers who are extremely knowledgeable about the game. They’ve studied it, researched it, watched it, and understand it from a completely different perspective—even if they never played at a high level themselves. And guess what? Some of them are GREAT trainers and coaches.
There are trainers with the accolades, the status, and the playing experience, but maybe patience isn’t their strongest quality when it comes to developing athletes. Maybe they were incredible players, but that doesn’t automatically mean they are the best fit for every athlete.
There are trainers who specialize in specific skills. An athlete might work with multiple trainers because each one brings something different to the table. One may specialize in shooting, another in ball handling, another in IQ, another in strength, another in GRIT—which is one of the areas I pride myself on developing.
Some trainers specialize in younger athletes. Others work primarily with high-level players. Some are focused on middle school. Some on high school. Some are preparing athletes for college.
There are MANY different paths.
And the truth is, it doesn’t always have to be college basketball. Maybe an athlete’s goal is middle school. Maybe it’s high school. Maybe they simply want to become a better basketball player and, more importantly, a better person.
Some people spend years diligently studying and researching this game. They may see things that players who have lived inside the game their entire lives sometimes overlook because they’re looking at basketball through a completely different lens. That outside perspective can make someone incredibly meticulous about the details.
I say all of that to say this:
We are ALL under the same umbrella—BETTERING OUR ATHLETES.
Getting them opportunities. Helping them reach college when that’s their goal. Developing their skills. Building their confidence. Teaching discipline. And ultimately helping them become better people in a world that is already so focused on hate, division, and war.
Don’t let your ego or narcissism blind you from the actual goal.
There is no one person who can disqualify another person from doing God’s work.
ONLY GOD CAN DO THAT.
If you’re new to this game, STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHER TRAINERS. You don’t have to be where they are. You don’t have to have their accolades. You don’t have to have their following.
Wake up every day, continue learning, continue serving, continue striving, and continue doing the work God put in front of you.
Do God’s work and watch Him work. 🙏🏿
There is room for all of us.
There are enough athletes to help. Enough kids who need guidance. Enough families who need support. Enough young people who need positive examples.
We need to stick together. 🤙🏿
At the end of the day, it shouldn’t be about who gets the credit.
It should be about who gets better.
