We’re looking for the best outdoorsman & outdoorswoman in Michigan.

One year.
How many different species can you harvest, trap, and catch?

Why are we doing this?

• To showcase just how many outdoor opportunities exist across Michigan—and help bring awareness to youth in every county
• To help preserve the traditions we all enjoy
• To create a positive platform that speaks honestly about these activities—the good, and the areas we can improve
• And at the end of it all… to crown a champion - men's and women's division

The question is simple:

Will it be you?

Details and rules will be published soon on our website.

Traditions run deep in the fish shack.

An old up-north shack, a pile of gear in the corner, and a kid holding a pike like it’s the biggest fish in the lake — because to him, it is.

Tip-ups scattered across the ice. Frozen boots by the door. Stories getting told the same way they always have.

These places don’t just hold fish. They hold memories. They make outdoorsmen.

One day you’re the kid with the pike. Someday you’re the one taking the picture.

Ice conditions aren’t doing us any favors right now.

Between the snow, slush, and getting around, it’s work just to convince yourself to go and try to set up - but we’ve only got 18 days left to chase walleye and pike here in the UP.

Might not be easy, but get after it!

Tough conditions build better memories. 💪❄️

Right now, ice fishing isn’t easy. Inconsistent ice (Great Lakes), shifting temps, slush, pressure cracks — it’s a grind. But that’s kind of the point. Getting out when it’s not perfect is where the good stuff lives.

Patience gets sharper. Skills get stronger. Small wins feel bigger. And when you finally punch a hole, mark a fish, and feel that tug… it means more.

Fair-weather days are great. But the days that test you? Those are the ones you remember.

If the ice makes you work for it this season — good. That’s where growth happens.

Stay safe. Check your ice. Embrace the challenge. 🎣🔥

If you like winter, this has been a GOOD one. ❄️

The kind with real snow. The kind where it actually feels like winter. Cold mornings, fresh powder, quiet nights, and that crisp air that wakes you right up.

Whether you’ve been out in it or just enjoying it from inside with something warm in your hand, you can’t say this season didn’t show up.

If you’re a winter person, this was your year. 👊

Not mad about it at all.

Options!

Big baits for big shadows. When you’re spearing pike, it’s all about drawing them in and waiting for that slow, steady glide into the hole. That moment when you see the white tip of the fins and your pulse jumps? Nothing beats it.

Patience. Clear water. One clean shot. 🎯

What’s hanging in your decoy spread this weekend?

Agree or disagree?

Organization makes you a better fisherman.

There’s nothing worse than watching your group catch fish… while you’re digging through a tangled mess of hooks and lures.

Being organized when you head out fishing isn’t just about looking neat — it’s about saving time, energy, and maximizing your success on the water.

And let’s be real — most of us only get a limited window during the week to get out there. When your time on the water is tight, every minute matters. The more organized you are, the more you can focus on fishing instead of fixing problems.

Here’s why it matters:

✅ More Time Fishing, Less Time Searching
When your tackle is sorted and easy to access, you can switch lures quickly and stay on the bite.

✅ Maximize Limited Time
If you’ve only got a few hours after work or one morning on the weekend, being prepared means you’re making casts/jigging lines — not untangling line or digging for gear.

✅ Less Stress, More Focus
No one wants to hunt for pliers while the fish are active. Organization keeps your mind on strategy, not scrambling.

✅ Protect Your Gear (and Your Wallet)
Properly stored rods, reels, and tackle last longer. Less damage = fewer replacements.

✅ Energy Saved = Better Performance
Fishing can be a long day. The less unnecessary effort you waste, the more energy you have when it counts.

A little prep the night before — organizing tackle trays, checking knots, packing smart — pays off big time on the water.

🎯 Success in fishing isn’t just about luck. It’s about preparation.

When your time is limited, preparation isn’t optional — it’s everything.

Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready. Tight lines! 🐟
