Week 1 is in the books! It was great to see a mix of kids & adults, and new & experienced swimmers. Hopefully I'll do a better job of capturing photos next week, but the ones I got are pretty cute!

Pool Safety - Part 2
If your child falls in the pool, the best case scenario is that they can climb out on their own. Floating on their back is a good first step. Walking their hands along the edge of the pool until they get to stairs or a ladder is a good second step. Once they're big enough, they should learn to exit from anywhere in the pool on their own. The technique is to go up on one elbow and then the other, lift and flop onto their belly, and then get one leg up. It takes some practice, but it's worth it in the end.

If your child falls in a pool, would they know what to do? Floating on your back to breath and call for help is a critical skill, but even better is being able to exit the pool on their own. There are two techniques your child can practice depending on their size and ability. This video demonstrates how your child could navigate to a ladder or stairs if they're not big or strong enough to lift themselves out.
