Utthita Parsvakonasana- Extended Side Angle Pose is primarily used in a Hatha or Vinyasa practice. It is meant to build strength by supporting an opening of the side body. Props( or my thigh in this case) are useful in this position as you don’t want to collapse your rib cage.

If you want to build towards headstands or handstands, Chaturanga. If you want to move towards arm balances, Chaturanga. If you want to improve your pop up on a surfboard, Chaturanga.
