Today Kiana can from Project Protect Our Youth and the Miss America Organization.

She taught us the key elements of self defense and empowering us to stay safe. We all got to break a board and seeing the girls’ faces light up was truly awesome!

Your girls have been working their TAILS off to get ready for their race. Over the last few weeks we’ve jogged, walked, sprinted, and everything in between to get prepared.

Last week We met with all the other REAL Girls programs In the district and practiced for our first 3 mile run!!

Yesterday, the girls made signs for eachother so each girl would have a sign along the race route.

We cannot wait to see you all tomorrow night (Friday May 2nd at Southern Bluffs) for spaghetti dinner. And Saturday morning (May 3rd) for our big race!

As always feel free to reach out with any questions!

If you ask your RG they will likely tell you this week was TOUGH!

Not only did we break the 2.5 mile mark on our Tuesday run, we took on long run sprints. We all felt the toughness that comes with pushing our bodies even when our brains are telling us we can’t go any further.

For speakers this week:

We had Kate Halverson an Occupational Therapist from Emplify come chat with us about stretching and hydration and how they both support healthy muscles while exercising.

Wednesday we talked with Amy Stodola a financial advisor from Edward Jones who shared with us all about financial literacy and how to set and achieve financial goals.

Then our very own Coach Emily and her Business partner Hannah spoke to the girls about entrepreneurship and what it’s like to own a business.

Like we said, this week was TOUGH. But the girls proved they are tougher every step of the way. We are officially over the halfway mark for the program!

This week was fantastic!

Tuesday we heard from Dr. Wagner about how hormones affect the body and the changes of puberty!

Dr. Wagner created wellness packs and each girl was given a wellness pack to keep on them if they were interested! Even if they don’t need it yet, it’s great to have as a resource for a friend.
—————
Wednesday we heard from college athletes in all different sports! They shared with us their journey with sports and how being a part of a team has impacted them.

We heard from Coach Matley about the transition to middle school and all the opportunities they can look forward to!
—————
I think we can all agree their favorite part was all the fun sprint games we played! We made puzzles, counted points, and built towers all while sprinting. So much cheering and laughing! Overall, this week was a success and the girls worked their butts off 🙂

We are all SO PROUD of these girls!

Today Lauren and Meg came to chat with us. Today we talked all about how important self care and positive self talk matter.

Lauren shared her journey with self care and how her breast cancer diagnosis at 28-years-old has impacted her perspective of taking care of herself. She talked about taking care of our brains and bodies and how much every aspect of our life is impacted when we aren’t kind to our brains and bodies.

Meg talked with us about how our brain chemistry changes when we speak negatively to ourselves. She also brought bracelets for each girls to customize so we can always have our affirmations nearby.

We played games to move our bodies and we even got to run in the halls at school!! The girls all said today was a GREAT day and we coaches couldn’t agree more.

We got to meet with some incredible women today.

Our friends Cali and Jamie from Tri-State Ambulance/Gundersen Ambulance and our friends Kate and Cara from Shelby Fire Department came and chatted with us about different definitions of strength.

It was such an amazing experience and we even moved our bodies for AT LEAST 1.9 miles.

WHAT. A. DAY.

We couldn’t be more grateful for our community support!

After our 2 MILE RUN, our friend Hannah Amann of Hey There, Hannah came to chat with us about listening to our bodies and seated/alternative exercises.
