We capped off the spring/summer season at the USFA Back to School tournament in Rome, GA on Saturday. This was the last 8u tournament for 9 of our girls and most of our coaches. We sure did miss Grape Juice though who has been out with a broken finger. These girls battled all day in some extreme heat, never showing any signs of quit.
We went 4-1 on the day, outscoring our opponents 61-27 and coming up just short in the gold bracket championship game. Every single girl left everything they had on the field Saturday, and honestly that’s all we could ask for as parents and coaches.
To say that this team hit their stride in their last 3 tournaments of the season would be a gross understatement. We went 10-3, all gold bracket championship games, outscoring our opponents 120-67, racking up 54 doubles, 17 triples, and 11 homers!
This season has been nothing short of special. Every player on this roster has grown tremendously—not only in every part of the game, but also as teammates and individuals. Somewhere along the way, this group became much more than a softball team. Our players, coaches, parents, and siblings became one big family, building relationships and memories that will last far beyond this season. That was never more evident than after the championship game, when the reality that this chapter was ending brought tears to the eyes of players, parents, and siblings alike.
As we close out this season, we say goodbye to three wonderful families who have chosen to remain in 8u, and we’re incredibly thankful for everything they’ve meant to this team. At the same time, we’re excited to welcome two new families as we begin our next chapter together this fall. The jerseys may change, the competition will get tougher, and new challenges are ahead—but the bond this team has built is something we’ll carry with us wherever we go.
