As a race director for Icarus Florida UltraFest I have given age waivers to many underage runners interested in running different distances from marathon to 6 days. Lately it became a controversial issue not in small part to the "social media" and the opinions of those who are "experts" in everything.
As a coach I fully encourage children to run as I consider running and swimming the safest sports for people, including for children who are still developing and growing.

Glad to see more of the above mentioned approach being presented to counter the fads of the day, including the extremely destructive trends of "accepting the way you are", "loving your body", "body positivity", etc which indirectly in my opinion are contributor factors the the obesity epidemic we are facing.
